Data show there were 17 pedestrians
killed in crashes in 2023, a signi cant
decline from the previous year's 36.
"We had a signi cant reduction in
pedestrian fatalities in 2023 and we're
continuing to see that trend go down,"
Terry said during his presentation. "That's a
very positive thing. [Still] much work to be
done around that in particular and I do
think we can continue to make an impact
and it's certainly worthy of our effort to do
that."
The police department sites four primary
factors behind deadly traf c crashes: Speed, driving under the
in uence of drugs and/or alcohol, a pedestrian in the roadway, and
red light violations.
There was also a 17% drop in deadly crashes overall, from 70 in 2022
to 51 in 2023.
Not only that, but year-to-date in 2024, deadly traf c crashes are
also down across the board compared to 2023. From January to
June, total deadly crashes are down from 32 in '23 to 21 this year;
vehicle-only crashes are down from 18 last year to 11; pedestrian
deaths are down from 12 to eight. Only deadly crashes involving
someone on a bike are the same as last year at two through June.

The City's Water Resources Department reports that in April and
May of this year DWS customers cut their water usage by 12% and
4% respectively, compared to the same months in 2020, the last full
year without mandatory water restrictions.
Over the 12-month period of June 2023 through May 2024
customers reduced their water use in all but one month, January
2024 (5% increase over January 2020).
The City continues to offer a Turf Replacement Program, free water
conservation kits and other conservation resources.
Mandatory water restrictions have been in place for DWS
customers, including no watering of lawns 48 hours after a rain
event, since December 2021. Those restrictions remain in place at
this time.
The City and our Water Resources Department applaud all our
customers' efforts to reduce unnecessary water use!

bins is 36 gallons.
They also feature a foot pedal activation
for hands-free opening.
The Bigbelly trash compactors were
installed at the intersections of 18th and L
Streets, 19th and Eye Streets, 20th and H

The pilot program is made possible thanks

Beale Park adopters get of cial sign
The Gonzales Garcia Family is now the of cial adopter of Beale Park
and they have the sign to prove it.
Through the Recreation & Parks Department's Adopt-A-Park
program, the Gonzales Garcia Family adopted Beale Park more than
six months ago. Earlier this week, Rec. & Parks staff installed a sign
recognizing the family as the of cial adopters of the park.
More than a dozen parks have been adopted through the program.
Once groups complete six months of service at their adopted park an
of cial sign is installed.
Adopt-A-Park groups help maintain parks, coordinating cleanups and
working with Recreation & Parks staff to keep parks healthy.
