HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 006-03RESOLUTION NO. 0 0 6- 03 A RESOLUTION DISPENSING WITH BIDDING PROCEDURES DUE TO EMERGENCY REPAIRS OF SEWER LINE LOCATED IN THE ALLEY BETWEEN BEECH AND MYRTLE STREETS AND EXTENDING FROM PALM STREET TO DRACENA STREET AND AUTHORIZING GRANITE CONSTRUCTION TO PERFORM REPAIRS NOT TO EXCEED $100,000 WHEREAS, on January 8, 2003, a sink hole on Palm Street at the alley between Beech and Myrtle Streets was detected, and caused City crews to video the sewer line; and WHEREAS, City crews proceeded to video the sewer line and discovered approximately 700 feet of the 15 inch sewer line was deteriorated with several holes already in the concrete line; and WHEREAS, the sewer line is seven feet deep and services several homes in the area bordered by Palm and Dracena Streets, Beech Street and Myrtle Street; and WHEREAS, the Public Works Director was informed that the repairs could not be fixed by City staff alone; and WHEREAS, the Public Works Director declared this problem an emergency and the work to be performed was of urgent necessity for the preservation of life, health or property; and WHEREAS, Granite Construction Company has the necessary material, equipment and expertise to perform the task of replacing the line; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: reference. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by 2. The work procurement of supplies, equipment or materials is hereby declared, as a matter of fact, to be of urgent necessity for the preservation of life, health or property. 3. The Finance Director is authorized to dispense with bidding in accordance with Section 3.20.060 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code. 4. The expenditure of funds to Granite Construction for said work, supplies, equipment or materials shall not exceed One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000). ............... 000 ...............
