Drainage Area J comprises of a part of the park and several six lots which will discharge its runoff into CB #10. CB #9 will collect the discharge produced by Area K at the intersection of Tualatin River Street and Corno River Court. Drainage Areas L, N, and M will discharge catch basins (CB #6, CB #7, & CB #8) located at the T-intersection of Tualatin River Street and Parjaro River Avenue. CB #5 will collect the discharge produced by Area Q at the intersection of Sixes River Street and Tatuk Way. Drainage Areas R, S, and T (CB #2, CB #3, & CB #4) will discharge into catch basins located at the T-intersection of Lake Trasimeno Street and Tatuk Way. Drainage Area U is a portion of McCutchen Road and seven lots will discharge its runoff into CB #1. Drainage Areas S and U have its own weighted coefficient value from portions of McCutchen Road and the residential lots. Drainage Area J will have its own weighted coefficient value from the park and the residential lots. PM 10155 (Offsite Area) will be tributary to this storm drain system through a proposed 30" RCP along Parjaro River Avenue. This future tract will be further analyzed later as part of a separate drainage study. The flows for the sizing of the pipes were estimated utilizing the City of Bakersfield Rational Method in accordance with the Subdivision Standards. Flows were computed for the 10-year event using the formula Q = CIA, where Q is the flow in cubic feet per second, C is the runoff coefficient, I is the intensity in inches per hour, and A is the catchment’s area in acres. Since the main purpose of this report is the storm drain system leading to the basin and the curb capacities were determined based the 5-year storm event. The proposed retention basin on the southwest corner of Tract 7042 situated on a 1.72 acre lot. PM 10155 is a future R-1 development located just east of Tracts 7041 & 7042. An assumed runoff coefficient of 0.45 was used for these calculations since for this layout is currently tentative. The required basin volume was calculated using the City of Bakersfield sump volume equation (V=0.15 x Ʃ (CxA)) per the City of Bakersfield Standards. The total contributing areas equal 108.05 acres; this acreage is divided into the areas as noted below. The area of the proposed basin was omitted from this analysis. The coefficient values are provided for each area, and the calculations for the required and provided volumes are shown below and on the Basin Exhibit. This program routes the flows and calculates the HGL for the system. The program has the ability to calculate the time of concentrations, but it also allows you to enter your own time. The time of concentration was calculated separately and entered into the program. A spreadsheet similar to the curb capacity spreadsheet was used to determine the initial time of concentrations in a 10-year event. The flows from the 10-year event were calculated and routed. Starting HGL at the basin was estimated to be 4.0’ above the basin bottom. 4.0 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS All proposed catch basin shall be 3.5-ft wide with differences in cross slopes ranging from 2.0% to 3.2%. The flows from the 10-year event were calculated and routed. The beginning HGL was estimated to be 4.0’ above the basin bottom at the outlet structure. All the pipes in this system were sized to be 18” RCP, 24” RCP, 30” RCP, and 36” RCP. The HGL is not less than 0.5’ below the existing grade at any manhole. The main objectives of this study were to design an economical storm drain system and meet the design standards set by the City of Bakersfield. The storm drain system will be able to handle a 10-year event. The basin will have a total water depth of 8.0’ with a minimum of 1’ of freeboard. The required sump capacity will consists of Tracts 7041 & 7042 (4.67 AF) and a future residential tract to the east, PM 10155 (2.45 AF) for a total of 7.08 AF. The provided sump capacity for Tracts 7041 & 7042 with this future residential development is 8.19 acre-feet (AF). The completed sump will have a bottom elevation of 323.50 and a water surface elevation of 331.50 which has an excess volume of 1.11 AF. Soils are assigned to one of four groups according to the rate of water infiltration when the soils are not protected by vegetation, are thoroughly wet, and receive precipitation from long-duration storms.
