The program is made possible thanks to
California Volunteers and the Kern Community Foundation.
The deadline to apply for the program has been extended to Aug. 23,
2024.
The program is open to youth ages 18 to 30 years old.
Individuals selected will work in one of a number of City
departments and earn $25 an hour.

National Ski Championships taking place locally!
The 82nd Annual Goode Water Ski National Championship is taking
place through Saturday.

The competition is back in California for the rst time since 2007
thanks in part to Visit Bakers eld.
It’s happening at Ski West Village, just outside of Bakers eld at
28311 Millux Road in Arvin.

Nearly 15,000 pounds of trash collected at free Bulky
Item event
The City's free Bulky Item Drop-off events
continue to be popular.
The most recent event on Aug. 10 saw
nearly 15,000 pounds of trash collected
along with more than 4,000 pounds of
metal.
About 150 vehicles dropped off 960
pounds of recycling, 57 mattresses and 25
tires.
For the year, nearly 125,000 pounds of trash have been collected at
the free Bulky Item Drop-off events.
The next event is tentatively scheduled to take place next month, but
is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

The City is planning for the future of Bakers eld and needs YOU to
help!
As part of the 2045 General Plan Update, the City's Development
Services Department will be hosting multiple workshops in August.
The Policy 101 Workshop will allow you to participate in hands on
activities like policy design sprints and role-play challenges and
provide your input on key topics affecting our community.
A virtual workshop is scheduled for Aug. 20 from 6-8 p.m.

GET Bus seeking public input on transit service
Golden Empire Transit (GET bus) is hoping to increase its ridership
and is looking for the public's input to help achieve that goal.
GET Bus has launched a community survey geared towards people
who have not used its services. The survey is designed to gather
insights and suggestions on how GET bus can encourage more
people to use public transit effectively.
The survey can be found at http://get2024survey.com or through the
QR code and in the yer below. The survey will be active through the
end of August.

City's spray parks are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, Tuesday through Sunday
through Labor Day on Sept. 2.
