4. STAFF REPORTS
a. Staff update on the City's efforts to address housing and
homelessness
Jenni Byers, Acting Economic Development Director, made staff
comments and gave a Power point presentation on affordable housing
strategies along with written material.
Committee Member Gonzales made a referral to have staff identify 3 to 5
clear objectives to focus on with the opportunity to have the highest
leverage to accelerate creating housing units.
Anthony Valdez, Assistant to the City Manager, made staff comments.
Committee Member Gonzales asked that the following items be placed on
the staff report: number of individuals who were engaged and moved into
a shelter or housing. Regarding the BLNC the number of individuals who
have been released into permanent supportive housing, as well as their
length of stay.
Lieutenant Gregory made staff comments.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Committee receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
The City Manager's Office, Economic & Community Development Department, and Bakersfield Police
Department provide a monthly report to the Housing & Homelessness Committee. The monthly report
provides data on housing, homelessness, and the Community Vitality Initiative.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund.

program serving multiple City functions, including but not limited to
downtown ambassadors, green solid waste, highway clean-up, animal
