2,977 lives lost on one of the darkest days of our country's history.
But through the sorrow, the tears, the darkness, came stories of
heroism and the unity of an entire country.
"To say that the events that unfolded on Sept. 11, 2001 were a
tragedy would be quite an understatement," said Bakers eld Fire
Chief John Frando during a ceremony held at Fire Station 15.
Fire Station 15 is home to the City's 9/11 memorial, which features a
steel girder from the World Trade Center.
During Wednesday's ceremony, a new bench was unveiled,
dedicated to Betty Ann Ong, a ight attendant on Flight 11. Ong is
credited with alerting ground personnel that a hijacking was taking
place and that the plane's cockpit was unreachable.
The bench, along with the girder are on display and open to the
public at Fire Station 15, located at 1301 Buena Vista Road.
