Federal homelessness of cial visits Bakers eld, BLNC
The City of Bakers eld continues to prioritize the issue of
homelessness and nding solutions to better serve those impacted
most.
On Wednesday, United States Interagency Council on Homelessness
Executive Director Jeff Olivet made a visit to Bakers eld.
In coordination with the Bakers eld-Kern Regional Homeless
Collaborative, Olivet met with local leaders and toured area facilities

aimed at helping those experiencing homelessness, including the
Brundage Lane Navigation Center.
Olivet met with Mayor Karen Goh, Vice Mayor Andrae Gonzales,
City Manager Chrisitan Clegg, Assistant City Manager Anthony
Valdez, BKRHC executive board chairman Carlos Baldovinos and
representatives from Mercy House Living Centers.
Mercy House Regional Director Theo Dues led a tour of the BLNC,
allowing Olivet a rst-hand look at the work being done on a daily
basis to help guests at the BLNC achieve their goals of nding their
way home.

From drab, soulless concrete and pavement to vivid, appealing,
inviting art, roadways around Bakers eld are getting a facelift thanks
to the Clean California Art Mural Projects.

The City of Bakers eld partnered with the California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans) and the Arts Council of Kern to target local
roadways in need of welcoming color through murals.

On Thursday, Caltrans, City and Arts Council of cials gathered to
celebrate the completion of the mural at Garces Circle.

Local artists were selected and, along with their teams, created
murals attached to underpasses in the area of Highway 99 and
California Avenue and the Garces Circle.

Bakers eld Fire meets future recruits at BC safety expo
The Bakers eld Fire Department got to meet potential recruits this
week during Bakers eld College's Public Safety Expo.
Students from BC were able to meet with representatives from
public safety agencies, asking questions and learning rsthand about
what it takes to be a rst responder.

City seeks public feedback on Active Transportation
Plan
As the City continues efforts to create a
long-term vision for a safe Citywide
pedestrian and bicycle plan, we're looking
to the public to provide feedback to let us
know what you want to see.
The City's Public Works Department is
seeking feedback for its Active
Transportation Plan through an online
interactive map that allows users to let us
know what improvements they would like to see.
Anyone interested can download and view the current report and
provide feedback to City staff.
