Residents gather to meet rst responders at National
Night Out
This week the community came out to meet rsthand those sworn to
protect and serve them during the Bakers eld Police Department's
National Night Out.
Held annually across the United States on the rst Tuesday of
August or October, National Night Out allows citizens to learn about

their law enforcement agencies, meet and greet rst responders and
even play games and take pictures with them.
Members of the Bakers eld Police Department, along with
Bakers eld Fire, set up Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Yokuts Park for this year's
National Night Out.

City celebrates inaugural apprenticeship program
The City continues to develop its workforce by providing rsthand
experience for individuals through its inaugural Bakers eld Youth
Jobs apprenticeship program.
On Friday, Sept. 27, the City celebrated its rst class of apprentices
during a ceremony in Council Chambers at City Hall South.
Students in the program worked in the Public Works Department,
learning the ins and outs of welding, repairing and maintaining
machinery and servicing City vehicles, including police cars.
The program is made possible thanks to funding from California
Volunteers and is administered by the Kern Community Foundation.

City of Bakers eld wraps up inaugural apprenticeship program
Bakers eld Condors set to hit the ice in preseason
opener
Let's make some noise Condorstown!
Your Bakers eld Condors are set to return to the ice at Mechanics
Bank Arena on Friday, Oct. 4 for their preseason opener against the
San Jose Barracuda.
The Condors are the American Hockey League af liate of the
Edmonton Oilers and are chock-full of talent who will soon be
playing in the National Hockey League.
Friday's game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30
p.m.
The Condors kick off the regular season Oct. 11 at the Coachella
Valley Firebirds. The team's home opener is Oct. 19 against the San
Diego Gulls.

City seeks public feedback on Active Transportation
Plan
As the City continues efforts to create a
long-term vision for a safe Citywide
pedestrian and bicycle plan, we're looking
to the public to provide feedback to let us
know what you want to see.
The City's Public Works Department is
seeking feedback for its Active
Transportation Plan through an online
interactive map that allows users to let us
know what improvements they would like to see.
Anyone interested can download and view the current report and
provide feedback to City staff.
