Schlecht, Shift 2 Patrol / SRT Date: October 31, 2024 Subject: Request for Waiver regarding Testing for Police Lieutenant (P) #02218 I am requesting a waiver for one of the requirements to take the Police Lieutenant examination am currently a Sergeant and have been since January 2023 and completed my probation in January 2024. 1 currently meet all the minimum requirements to apply for this promotional examination with the exception of the POST Supervisory Certificate which has three requirements: 1. 60 semester units from an accredited college 2. Completion of a POST Supervisory Course 3. Minimum 2 years as a "Permanent first -level supervisor" My status for these requirements: 1. 1 have a Bachelors Degree in Business from CSU Bakersfield. 2. 1 completed the POST Supervisory Course in March 2024 3. At the time of this testing I will have 1 year, 10 months as a "Permanent first -level supervisor" The only minimum time in rank requirements made by the City of Bakersfield for this position is 1 year, which is the time it takes to complete probation. This minimum time requirement for the Supervisor Certificate is 2 years which is incongruent with the City of Bakersfield's minimum time requirements. I anticipate having my POST Supervisory Certificate awarded in January 2025. I have 17 years of Law Enforcement experience dispersed at every rank up to Sergeant. I have nearly 2 years as a Sergeant and also have 3 years of supervisory experience as a Senior Police Officer which has many similar responsibilities of a Sergeant. In closing, I do not believe the lack of 2 months experience is a meaningful reason to prevent me from participating in the examination process and applying my actual experience and decision -making to the evaluators to be compared against my peers. Thank you for your consideration. I plan on attending the civil service meeting if they have any questions.
