City of ces closed for
Thanksgiving holiday, collection
services impacted
The City of Bakers eld's administrative
of ces, including City Hall North (1600
Truxtun Ave.) will be closed Thursday and
Friday, Nov. 28-29 due to the Thanksgiving
holiday.
The City's of ces will reopen at their
normal times at 8 a.m. on Dec. 2.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, trash and recycling services will be
pushed back a day starting Thursday, Nov. 28.
Normal Thursday collection services will take place Friday, Nov. 29
with normal Friday services taking place Saturday, Nov. 30. Normal
Saturday services will not be impacted.

Annual Tree Lighting set for Nov. 30 at Centennial
Plaza!
One of your favorite holiday traditions is back!
The 8th Annual Tree Lighting is set to take place Saturday, Nov. 30 at
5:30 at Centennial Plaza in front of Mechanics Bank Arena, Theater
and Convention Center, 1001 Truxtun Ave.!
Mayor Karen Goh will be on hand as will Santa and Mrs. Claus!
After the tree lighting, head inside for the Bakers eld Condors
annual Teddy Bear Toss!

Condors host thousands of students during Field Trip
Day
More than 6,000 Kern County students were treated to some non-
stop action on the ice as part of the Bakers eld Condors annual Field
Trip Day on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
According to the Condors website, 6,360 students packed
Mechanics Bank Arena for the Condors 4-2 loss against the

Abbotsford Canucks.
The Condors return home Friday, Nov. 22 as they host the Colorado
Eagles at 7 p.m.

New amenities coming to Bakers eld Police Activities
League
Some good news for students who utilize the Bakers eld Police
Activities League's facilities.
Outdoors, the playing eld at BPAL will soon get a major
revitalization and indoors, a new state-of-the-art computer lab
center will be on the way thanks to a $100,000 donation from the
Anand Legacy Foundation.

Mayor Karen Goh, Police Chief Greg Terry, members of the BPAL
board and representatives from the Anand Legacy Foundation
gathered for a ceremony Thursday, Nov. 21, to commemorate
donation.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the renovated eld is set for
December.

City employees learn about uses for GIS technology
The City's Technology Services Department is continually working to
nd creative ways to share information with the public, including the
use of Geographic Information Systems.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Technology Services hosted GIS Day,
showcasing some of the uses of GIS within each City department.
City employees learned rsthand how data is collected and then
used in interactive maps and dashboards for the public.
Among the more recent uses of GIS technology within the City is the
Bakers eld Police Department's Community Crime Dashboard,
which allows the community to search historical crime data
throughout the City, providing the ability to lter the information.
Bakers eld Fire accepting donations for Toys for Tots
The holiday season is upon us and the Bakers eld Fire Department is
doing its part to help those in need as it participates in this year's
Toys for Tots.

Bakers eld Fire is accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys at
any of its City re stations through Dec. 6.

Don't pour cooking grease down
drains! Recycle it for free year round!
With the holidays upon us, the City's Wastewater Division wants to
remind the public not to pour used cooking grease down drains!
Instead, you're encouraged to drop off used cooking grease and
dispose of it in a safe way for free.
The drop-off locations are:
The City's Wastewater Treatment Plant 3, 6901 McCutchen Road
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce, 204 Universe
Avenue
Kern UCO, 4031 Alken Street, Ste A5

Residents can drop it off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday (except for holidays).
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations.
Community Land Trust Board application deadline Nov.
22
Time is running out for those interested in applying to be part of the
Bakers eld Community Land Trust Board of Directors.
The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
The mission of the Community Land Trust is to create housing
opportunities for low- and moderate-income families in Bakers eld.
It also aims to support and steward these families by ensuring that
homes remain affordable in perpetuity.

Rec. & Parks looking for new bike
shop instructor for afterschool
program
The City's Recreation & Parks Department
is looking for a new instructor to help lead
the Build-A-Bike Program at the Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Community Center.
The program, rst introduced in 2007,
allows students to take home a refurbished
bike after working in the MLK Community
Center bike shop. It is a free program for students with used bikes
being donated by the Bakers eld Police Department and members
of the community.
Anyone interested can contact the MLK Community Center at 661-
322-9874.
Fire dispatch informational session set for Nov. 25
Joe O'Grady (right), the long-time bike shop
instructor of the Recreation & Parks
Department's Build-A-Bike program has retired,
leaving a void to be lled by someone passionate
about helping students learn the ins and outs of
bikes.
