Christmas Parade set for Thursday night, traf c
impacted
Traf c will be heavily impacted in Downtown Bakers eld on
Thursday due to the 42nd annual Bakers eld Christmas Parade.
The parade route and closures stretch west to east from H Street to
P Street and north to south from 23rd Street to 19th Street.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with streets being
reopened around 11 p.m.
7,000+ Teddy Bears collected during Condors' annual
game
More than 7,000 stuffed animals hit the ice during the Bakers eld
Condors' annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Condors fans didn't have to wait long to launch their Teddy Bears
onto the ice as Alex Swetlikoff scored 2 minutes, 50 seconds into the
game.
The 7,084 Teddy Bears will be collected by the United Way and
distributed to children in need.
With Saturday's totals, 167,000 Teddy Bears have been collected
since the event started during the 1999-2000 season.

The game followed the annual Tree Lighting ceremony held in
Centennial Plaza in front of Mechanics Bank Arena, which featured
appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus and Mayor Karen Goh.

The relationship between the City of
Bakers eld's Recreation & Parks
Department and the Bakers eld City
School District continues to be a success
with dozens of students participating in
afterschool programs.
The ag football program's season
culminated Nov. 17 as students from Pauly

Elementary took on students from McKinley Elementary in the
league's championship.
The team from Pauly Elementary completed a perfect 7-0 season,
beating McKinley in the title game 16-12.
Along with Pauly and McKinley, students from Longfellow, Fremont,
Bessie Owens and Jefferson elementary schools participated in the
seven-week program, open to students in grades 4th through 6th.
The afterschool program will continue with boys and girls basketball
being played at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center
starting in January.

Don't pour cooking grease down
drains! Recycle it for free year round!
With the holidays upon us, the City's Wastewater Division wants to
remind the public not to pour used cooking grease down drains!
Instead, you're encouraged to drop off used cooking grease and
dispose of it in a safe way for free.

Residents can drop it off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday (except for holidays).
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations.
Bakers eld Fire accepting donations for Toys for Tots
The holiday season is upon us and the Bakers eld Fire Department is
doing its part to help those in need as it participates in this year's
Toys for Tots.
Bakers eld Fire is accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys at
any of its City re stations through Dec. 6.

Rec. & Parks looking for new bike
shop instructor for afterschool program
The City's Recreation & Parks Department
is looking for a new instructor to help lead
the Build-A-Bike Program at the Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Community Center.
The program, rst introduced in 2007,
allows students to take home a refurbished
bike after working in the MLK Community
Center bike shop. It is a free program for
students with used bikes being donated by
the Bakers eld Police Department and
members of the community.
Anyone interested can contact the MLK Community Center at 661-
322-9874.
CPR & First Aid training being offered for $5
Joe O'Grady (right), the long-time bike shop
instructor of the Recreation & Parks
Department's Build-A-Bike program has retired,
leaving a void to be lled by someone passionate
about helping students learn the ins and outs of
bikes.
