City's administrative of ces closed
for holiday, trash services impacted
The City of Bakers eld's administrative
of ces, including City Hall North, will be
closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday,
Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday.
Of ces will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec.
26.
Trash and recycling services will be pushed
back as follows:

Normal Wednesday services will take place Thursday, Dec. 26.
Normal Thursday services will take place Friday, Dec. 27.
Normal Friday services will take place Saturday, Dec. 28.
Normal Saturday services will not be impacted.
Notable Items
City Council welcomes newest members Koman,
Bashirtash
Wednesday night the Bakers eld City Council welcomed its newest
Councilmembers as Larry Koman (Ward 5) and Zack Bashirtash
(Ward 6) were of cially sworn into of ce.
Councilmember Andrae Gonzales (Ward 2) was also sworn in,
following his re-election in November.
Outgoing Councilmembers Bruce Freeman (Ward 5) and Patty Gray
(Ward 6) were recognized for their time serving the City of
Bakers eld.
During Wednesday's meeting, councilmembers unanimously
approved appointing Manpreet Kaur (Ward 7) as Vice Mayor.

Bakers eld Police names 2024 Employees of the Year
The Bakers eld Police Department on Thursday morning recognized
those within the force who stood out in their roles during 2024 with
their annual Employees of the Year awards.
Honored for their service were:
Civilian Employee of the Year - Digital Forensic Examiner Street
Dispatcher of the Year - Police Dispatcher Payne
Of cer of the Year - Of cer Selman
Civilian Supervisor of the Year - Police Property and Facilities
Supervisor Polm
Sworn Supervisor of the Year - Sergeant Bishop

BPD gives back to community, delivers 500 food
baskets to families
Members of the Bakers eld Police Department got into the giving
spirit on Thursday helping families in the community celebrate
Christmas early.
Members of BPD, along with other local agencies, put together
Family to Family Food baskets, providing families with meals for the
holidays, along with toys for children.
In all, 500 baskets were delivered to families in need.

BPD participates in annual Wreaths Across America
Helping honor those who served our country, members of the
Bakers eld Police Department volunteered last week participating
in Wreaths Across America at Bakers eld National Cemetery.
Annually, Wreaths Across America sees more than two million
volunteers carry out its mission to Remember, Honor and Teach at
more than 4,600 locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad, laying
wreaths at the gravesites of those served in the military.
Members of Bakers eld Police helped unload two semi-trucks'
worth of wreaths, laying 7,000 in total ahead of a ceremony on
Saturday, Dec. 14.

BLNC celebrates newest culinary arts program
graduates
The Brundage Lane Navigation Center
continues to help individuals get back on
their feet and work toward nding homes
and employment.
One of the programs helping individuals
learn a trade is the Culinary Arts Training
Program.
Last week four more individuals of cially
graduated from the 10-week, 120-hour course, as the fth class to
do so.
Residents participating in the program at the BLNC manage the site's
garden, growing vegetables, harvesting them and using them in
recipes as part of their curriculum as they help feed other residents.
The program helps residents develop transferable skills that will be
of bene t as they look for employment.
The program was launched in 2022.

Don't pour cooking grease down drains! Recycle it for
free year round!
With the holidays upon us, the City's Wastewater Division wants to
remind the public not to pour used cooking grease down drains!
Instead, you're encouraged to drop off used cooking grease and
dispose of it in a safe way for free.
The drop-off locations are:
The City's Wastewater Treatment Plant 3, 6901 McCutchen Road
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce, 204 Universe
Avenue
Kern UCO, 4031 Alken Street, Ste A5
Residents can drop it off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday (except for holidays).
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations.
Rec. & Parks looking for new bike
shop instructor for afterschool
program
The City's Recreation & Parks Department
is looking for a new instructor to help lead
the Build-A-Bike Program at the Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Community Center.
The program, rst introduced in 2007,
allows students to take home a refurbished
bike after working in the MLK Community
Center bike shop. It is a free program for students with used bikes
being donated by the Bakers eld Police Department and members
of the community.
Joe O'Grady (right), the long-time bike shop
instructor of the Recreation & Parks
Department's Build-A-Bike program has retired,
leaving a void to be lled by someone passionate
about helping students learn the ins and outs of
bikes.
