Karen Goh sworn in for third term as Bakers eld's
Mayor
On Monday, Karen Goh was sworn in to begin her third term as the
City of Bakers eld's Mayor.
She was re-elected in March , 2024. She was rst elected in 2016 to
serve as the City's 26th Mayor before being re-elected in 2020.
"I'm thoroughly inspired by all the gritty hardworking citizens with
hope for the future, who call this beautiful city home and that's all of
you out there," Mayor Goh said during her installation ceremony.
"Today and together we have boundless potential. Let's each
continue to bring our own abilities, vision and passion to realize that
potential."
Goh will now serve a four-year term through 2028.

Bakers eld Fire sends personnel to help battle blazes in
Palisades
As res continue to rage out of control in Los Angeles County, the
Bakers eld Fire Department has dispatched more than a dozen
individuals to help with re ghting efforts.
Fires in the Paci c Palisades and Altadena have prompted responses
from re agencies throughout California and in neighboring states.
This week Bakers eld Fire sent 17 re ghters along with ve
engines to Southern California.
According to the Of ce of the Governor, as of Thursday afternoon,
more than 7,500 re personnel and 1,100 re engines have been
sent to help battle res in Los Angeles.

This morning, the Bakersfield Fire Department deployed two engines to
assist with firefighting efforts for the Eaton and Palisades Fires in
Southern California.
Our brave firefighters are answering the call to support our neighboring

As the City looks to revitalize this historic part of Bakers eld, we’re
looking to the community to help shape Old Town Kern.
We’re hosting multiple community workshops in Old Town Kern,
where we’d love to hear your feedback and input for the OTK Vision
Plan.
Join us at 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 at La Mariposa Venue, 711
Sumner Street for presentations from community leaders, then
share your ideas with the design team.
If you can’t make it to that workshop, join us at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan.
25, at RAM Gallery, 614 Kentucky Street, to provide feedback on
initial plans and engage with the design team.

First free Bulky Item Drop-off event of 2025 set for
Saturday
Get the new year started on the right foot by clearing out some of
those items you have piled up around your home.
The City's Solid Waste Division will be hosting its rst FREE Bulky
Item Drop-off event Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Bakers eld Municipal
Airport (2000 S. Union Ave.) from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Bulky Item Drop-off events continued to be popular in 2024 as
nearly 170,000 pounds of trash was taken to the events, along with
more than 60,000 pounds of metal and 6,200 pounds of recycling.

Free Christmas tree recycling program ends Saturday,
Jan. 11
Now that the holidays are over, you might
be trying to gure out what to do with your
real Christmas tree.
Now through Jan. 11, 2025, you can
recycle your tree for FREE thanks to the
City of Bakers eld's Solid Waste Division.
Your real trees can be recycled at the
following locations:
The City's Mt. Vernon Organics
Recycling & Composting Facility, 2601
South Mt. Vernon Avenue, 7 a.m. to 4
p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
The Bakers eld College parking lot at the northwest corner of
Haley Street and University Avenue, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a
week.
The Kern County Fairgrounds south parking lot, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
seven days a week. The parking lot is located at the corner of Belle
Terrace and P Street.

Only real trees are accepted. You are asked to remove all ornaments,
bulbs, lights and decorations.
You can also cut up your Christmas tree and place it in your green
organics bin.
Don't pour cooking grease down
drains! Recycle it for free year round!
With the holidays now past us, you might have some leftovers in your
fridge and some leftover grease sitting on your counter.
The City's Wastewater Division wants to remind the public not to
pour used cooking grease down drains!
Instead, you're encouraged to drop off used cooking grease and
dispose of it in a safe way for free.
The drop-off locations are:
The City's Wastewater Treatment Plant 3, 6901 McCutchen Road
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce, 204 Universe
Avenue
Kern UCO, 4031 Alken Street, Ste A5
Residents can drop it off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday (except for holidays).
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations.

Rec. & Parks looking for volunteers for upcoming T-ball
season
The City's Recreation & Parks Department is looking for volunteers
for its upcoming T-ball season.
If you're looking to make a difference in a child's T-Ball experience,
consider signing up to be a coach for the Pee Wee T-Ball League
(ages 3–5) or T-Ball League (ages 5–7). As a coach, you’ll help guide
young players while creating lasting memories in a fun and exciting
environment.
Teams practice once a week, with games held on Saturday mornings.
The season runs from March 10 to April 26.

closures

A portion of the Kern River Parkway Multi-
Use Trail will be closed intermittently
beginning Jan. 13, 2025.
The trail will be closed west of the Coffee
Road bridge near the end of the Truxtun
Extension through Wednesday, Jan. 15 as a
contractor moves equipment in the area.
Any work is subject to postponement due
to unforeseen circumstances. The City
thanks you for your patience and
understanding.
