City's administrative of ces closed
for Martin Luther King Jr. holiday
The City of Bakers eld's administrative
of ces, including City Hall North, will be
closed Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of
the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
City of ces will reopen during normal business hours at 8 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Trash and recycling services will NOT be impacted.

Bakers eld Police Department launches new
community survey
The Bakers eld Police Department has
launched a new public survey tool to better
understand local concerns, attitudes, and
trust in police of cers. The survey, which
will appear on residents' phones, will
enable BPD to better understand local
neighborhood safety issues and enhance
responsiveness to community priorities.
The survey will gather responses from
residents in English, Spanish, and Punjabi.
Based on responses, the survey will
measure satisfaction regarding residents’
feeling of safety and trust in police while
also identifying key concerns residents
want the city to address.
“We are committed to fostering collaboration and increasing
opportunities for engagement,” said Bakers eld Police Chief Greg
Terry. “This will help ensure we remain responsive to the needs and
concerns of our community as we work together to build safe and
healthy neighborhoods.”
The survey is made possible through technology company Zencity.
City Fire sends Urban Search & Rescue Team to
Southern California
The Bakers eld Fire Department continues to join thousands of
re ghters from throughout the state and world to support efforts
in Southern California.

On Saturday, Jan. 11, the Bakers eld Fire Department, along with
Kern County Fire, sent an Urban Search and Rescue Team to the
Palisades Fire.
That team consists of 20 Bakers eld Fire ghters and 10 County
Fire ghters.
Bakers eld Fire already had 17 re ghters and ve re engines
dispatched to help battle blazes in Southern California.
City's mobile app set for temporary outage Jan. 21
The City of Bakers eld's mobile app will be unavailable temporarily
Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to maintenance.
Rock Solid, the Bakers eld mobile app's developer, will begin
maintenance at 7 p.m. It is scheduled to last about three hours.
Reporting an issue through the app will not be available during that
time.
The Bakers eld mobile app is free and available on Android and
Apple devices. You can report items like graf ti, potholes, illegal
dumping and more.

Nearly 25,000 pounds collected at
free Bulky Item Drop-off event
The New Year started with hundreds of
residents cleaning out their homes and
taking items to the City's rst Bulky Item
Pop-up event of 2025.
The City's Solid Waste Division reported
nearly 25,000 pounds of trash, metal and
recycling was dropped off at the event at
Bakers eld Municipal Airport on Union
Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Solid Waste reported more than 275 vehicles showed up to the
event to drop off items.
The next free Bulky Item Drop-off event is tentatively scheduled to
take place at the Bakers eld Sports Village in February.
$20k raised for pediatric cancer patients through
Condors auction
Last week Condorstown showed its generosity raising more than
$20,000 for local pediatric cancer patients.
The Bakers eld Condors held a jersey auction on Saturday, Jan. 11
raising $20,300 for 10 pediatric cancer patients and their families.
The auction was part of a partnership with Dignity Health Mercy and
Memorial hospitals, and the Kern County Cancer Foundation.
There is still a live online auction to bene t the Condors Community
Foundation with all proceeds staying locally in Kern County.

Youth Jobs Program alum starts career with City's
Technology Services Dept.
The City's Youth Jobs Program continues to develop success stories
and this week was another example.
On Monday, former City Hall Fellow Enrico started his rst day with
the City of Bakers eld.
Enrico was a Fellow with the City in 2023 and now joins our team in
our Technology Services Department.

As a Fellow, Enrico learned rsthand the
ins and outs of Civil Service, developing his
skillset that led him right back here to the
City.
Enrico's journey is thanks in part to our

Kern Community Foundation.

Kern at upcoming workshops!
What is your vision for the future of Old Town Kern?
As the City looks to revitalize this historic part of Bakers eld, we’re
looking to the community to help shape Old Town Kern.
We’re hosting multiple community workshops in Old Town Kern,
where we’d love to hear your feedback and input for the OTK Vision
Plan.
Join us at 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 at La Mariposa Venue, 711
Sumner Street for presentations from community leaders, then
share your ideas with the design team.
If you can’t make it to that workshop, join us at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan.
25, at RAM Gallery, 614 Kentucky Street, to provide feedback on
initial plans and engage with the design team.
We look forward to hearing from you and collaborating on this
project to revitalize Old Town Kern!

Don't pour cooking grease down
drains! Recycle it for free year round!
With the holidays now past us, you might have some leftovers in your
fridge and some leftover grease sitting on your counter.
The City's Wastewater Division wants to remind the public not to
pour used cooking grease down drains!
Instead, you're encouraged to drop off used cooking grease and
dispose of it in a safe way for free.
The drop-off locations are:
The City's Wastewater Treatment Plant 3, 6901 McCutchen Road
North of the River Sanitary District main of ce, 204 Universe
Avenue
Kern UCO, 4031 Alken Street, Ste A5
Residents can drop it off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day,
Monday through Friday (except for holidays).
Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in
sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations.

Summer will be here before you know it and that means swim
season!

In order to provide more hours at the City's
public pools, our Recreation & Parks
Department is beginning the process of
recruiting lifeguards.
Certi cations are FREE for participants
who participate in the Lifeguard Academy
and accept a job with the City. Cost is $226
for non-hires.
All participants must be at least 16 years
old by April 25 and must pass a pre-
assessment before registering for the Academy.
Pre-assessment and Academy dates are as follows:

Rec. & Parks looking for volunteers for upcoming T-ball
season
The City's Recreation & Parks Department is looking for volunteers
for its upcoming T-ball season.
If you're looking to make a difference in a child's T-Ball experience,
consider signing up to be a coach for the Pee Wee T-Ball League
(ages 3–5) or T-Ball League (ages 5–7). As a coach, you’ll help guide
young players while creating lasting memories in a fun and exciting
environment.
