City breaks ground on 1.5-mile sewer line in Southeast
Bakers eld
This week the City celebrated the groundbreaking of needed
infrastructure in Southeast Bakers eld's Ward 1, kicking off
construction of a new 1.5-mile sewer line.
The sewer line will provide infrastructure needed to eventually
create housing developments, a park, commercial projects and the
area's rst supermarket, along South Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.,
formerly known as Cottonwood Road.
On Wednesday, stakeholders, including Ward 1 Councilmember Eric
Arias, held a groundbreaking before hosting a community
celebration at Del Oro High School on Thursday.
Infrastructure is so important and part of the reason why we have
not seen a lot of development take place in Southeast Bakers eld,"
Arias said. "In other parts of the community, oftentimes it is the
developing partner who is willing to install that sewer pipeline, but
for corridors like MLK, that hasn't been the case.
"I'm just so grateful for City leadership, my Councilmembers on the
dais, the Mayor for her advocacy and of course the City Manager and
the entire staff for seeing the opportunity, seeing the vision and
really understanding that if the City of Bakers eld wants to rise,

we’re all going to have to rise and that includes Southeast
