City launches sustainability project, SOAR Bakers eld
The City of Bakers eld has launched a new initiative - SOAR
(Sustainable Opportunities Advancing Resilience) Bakers eld and
needs the community's help during the planning process.
The City is looking to the community to identify strategies that can
strengthen our local economy, reduce pollution, and build a more
resilient community.

BPD clears encampments following staff street walk
A staff street walk in early February organized by Bakers eld Police
Chief Greg Terry has already netted positive results.
On Wednesday, the Bakers eld Police Department's Impact Team,
along with the City's Code Enforcement and Kern County Mental
Health, cleared 11 encampments in the area of V & U streets.

The encampment was identi ed during the staff street walk on Feb.
4 where members of BPD and City leaders walked the
neighborhood, identifying environmental factors that ultimately lead
to crime.
Residents near the encampment site identi ed as a source of drug
and criminal activity.
Nine people were arrested during the operation.

BPD Vice Detail recognized for work ghting juvenile
traf cking
Last week the Bakers eld Police Department's Vice Detail was
recognized by the Kern Coalition Against Human Traf cking with the
2025 Phil Gazley Unlocking Freedom Award.
The award highlighted the outstanding investigative work and
collaborative efforts with various partner agencies to rescue a
juvenile traf cking victim with a years-long history of abuse. The
investigation resulted in the conviction of a human traf cker who
was sentenced to 15 years-to-life.
Recognized for their efforts were BPD Sgt. Jones, Sgt. Trefz, and Det.
Amos. Representatives from the of ce of State Senator Shannon
Grove also presented a Certi cate of Recognition to the Vice Detail
for their outstanding work.
Thousands in Bakers eld for CIF State Wrestling
Championship
Hundreds of high school wrestlers have ascended upon Bakers eld,
vying to be the best in the state of California.

On Thursday, the CIF State Wrestling Championships of cially
kicked off its three-day run in Bakers eld, culminating with the nals
Saturday night.
Annually, as many as 17,000 people attend the event.

City animal shelter looking for short-term fosters
through March 8
The Bakers eld Animal Care Center is always looking for anyone
interested in adopting animals from their shelter. Currently, the
BACC is looking for short-term fosters to house dogs through next
week.
The BACC has 27 dogs that are considered safe and will be leaving
for rescue March 8.
Anyone interested in fostering can pick up a dog through Saturday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The BACC is located at 201 S. Mount Vernon.
