The Fire Department Civil Service Regular Meeting commenced on Monday January 13, 2025,
at 3:00 p.m. at Fire Station #1.

A motion was made by Commissioner Edmonds, Seconded by Commissioner Burton to
approve the election of Commissioner George as Chair for the 2025 Fire Civil Service
Board. APPROVED, ALL AYES

approve the election of Commissioner Burton as Vice Chair for the 2025 Fire Civil Service
Board. APPROVED, ALL AYes
4. Approval of the Minutes of the Special Meeting of October 17, 2024, of the Bakersfield Fire
Department Civil Service Board.
Upon a motion by Commissioner Edmonds, seconded by Commissioner Burton, to
approve the Minutes of the Special Meeting of October 17, 2024, of the Fire Department
Civil Service Board. APPROVED, ALL AYES.

After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Burton, seconded by
Commissioner Edmonds to approve staff recommendation, and approve the
Certification of Fire Dispatcher I (Open) 02245 Eligible List. APPROVED, ALL AYES
B. NEPOTISM(S)
1. Alyssa McHugh, Fire Dispatcher I (Open) 02245
After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Edmonds, seconded by
Commissioner Burton to approve staff recommendation, and approve the
Nepotism Waiver for Alyssa McHugh, Fire Dispatcher I (Open) 02245. APPROVED,
ALL AYES
5. Commissioner Statements
Commissioners thanked Human Resources and the Bakersfield Fire Department for their
recruiting efforts, a large list for Fire Dispatcher I, and crew fighting LA fires.
6. Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Board, Chair Mike George adjourned
the meeting at 3:09 p.m.

Specification, Fire Chief 89400.
Motion was approved by Commissioner George and Commissioner Burton, with
Commissioner Edmonds voting No.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty involving specialized firefighting work in the
operation and care of pumping, ladder, and rescue equipment and vehicles; and performs other work as

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants for this position must possess or have completed the following requirements by the Filing Deadline
listed above:
• Graduated from high school or GED equivalent
• Completion of basic firefighter training and course work in hydraulics, AND,
• Three (3) years' experience as a Firefighter with the Bakersfield Fire Department
• Possession of a Class "C" with a Firefighter Endorsement or Class B Non-Commercial California driver's
license or above (Class B Commercial/Class A Commercial or Non-Commercial)
• Bakersfield Fire Department's Driver Operator Certification Course (refer to Fire Engineer Supplemental
Application Form Question #6)
• State Fire Marshal Firefighter II Certification
• Possession of a current valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician 1 (EMT-1) Certificate OR
current and valid National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification or higher
• Completion of Bakersfield Fire Department's Engineer Certification, valid within 12 months of the filing
deadline (dated between 4/29/24-4/29/25).
EXAMINATION: ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW(Weighted 100%): May 6, 2025 (Tentative)
An appraisal will be made of the applicant's education, experience, personal qualifications, and knowledge of
Bakersfield Fire Department's Policies and other pertinent information relating to the Fire Service. Minimum
passing score is 70%.
NOTE:Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of
qualifications.Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
