ADJOURNMENT I BAKERSFIELD FE SOUND 0F ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT MEETING DATE: June 12, 2024 AGENDA CATEGORY: REPORTS TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Rick Anthony, Recreation and Parks Director DATE: May 28, 2024 SUBJECT: Recreation and Parks Adopt-A-Park Program Presentation Description] RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council to accept and file program presentation. BACKGROUND: The City of Bakersfield's Adopt-A-Park program (Program) recruits, trains, and supports individuals and groups who want to take an active role in keeping our parks healthy and clean for the entire community. The Program was initially started circa December 2021. The Program was redesigned in March 2023 which resulted in increased participation from one adopted park to, presently, 14 parks. The goal of the Program is to build community pride and ownership around every neighborhood park in Bakersfield. Park Adopters serve as key community representatives for their park by organizing a community-based volunteer group and making an ongoing commitment to improving their adopted park. Today's presentation is to highlight the successes the Adopt-A-Park program has been achieving as well as provide a firsthand experience from one of our Park Adopters and the potential for growth in collaborative efforts made available by the Adopt-A-Park program. FISCAL IMPACT:There is minimal impact to the Recreation and Parks General Fund Operating Budget in support of the Program. COUNCIL GOAL: Safety and Resilience ATTACHMENTS: Presentation Page 2 of 18 .. . , . , _ r . ...,_ 3 BAKERSFIELD -• r , 4.._ 'A. • ■yen. rus _ .1 • SL ' - `` RECREATION & PARKS lit '..'3 IS ADZ/PIED BY ■ , Your Croup's _— I .._L` Name Hero - Adopo-A-Pork • - _ • A City' fa a r `/ iov^ •.1.,;;..-4,,. _.,r:y yr•Jyj•. • '-.e5.;''''.-:,+ T•1W ,y';iimiew..cisp,..- •"'"--.
