RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING OBTAINING FUNDING
FOR THE ACQUISITION OF LANDS TO COMPLETE
THE KERN RIVER PARKWAY PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Kern River Parkway project is part of the joint County of Kern - City
of Bakersfield general plan; and
WHEREAS, since 1988, the City of Bakersfield has been working with Parkway
participants in a collaborative effort to complete the Parkway; and
WHEREAS, the Parkway includes habitat restoration areas, green belts, bike path
and equestrian trail, parking and staging areas, day use parks, and environmental studies
there is; and
WHEREAS, one primary goal of the Kern River Parkway project is the acquisition
of privately owned parcels which allow the City to complete habitat restoration areas and
other Parkway phases; and
WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 204 gives an additional opportunity to
acquire several river parcels that are key to the implementation and completion of the
Parkway project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION I
To support obtaining critically needed funding for the acquisition of key parcels of
river land necessary to complete the implementation of the Kern River Parkway project.
SECTION 2
The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution and send a certified copy
to Governor Wilson's office, Senator Costa's office, Senator Maddy's office, Assemblyman
Ashburn, and Assemblyman Prenter.
