A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONVEYANCE
OF THE BUILDING LOCATED AT 1033 TRUXTUN
AVENUE TO KERN COUNTY FARM BUREAU, INC.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield owns the building located at 1033 Truxtun
Avenue ("the building"); and
WHEREAS, currently, the building is occupied by the Greater Bakersfield Chamber
of Commerce and the Greater Bakersfield Convention and Visitors' Bureau ("the tenants");
and
WHEREAS, the tenants must vacate the building by November 1, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the cost to the City to move the building to another location was
prohibitive; and
WHEREAS, the City intended to demolish the building to facilitate construction of
Centennial Plaza at an estimated cost of $40,000.00; and
WHEREAS, Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc. has offered to move the building to
property which it owns in exchange for conveyance of title to the building; and
WHEREAS, this conveyance would save the City the cost of demolition.
NOW,
as follows:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
Conveying the building to Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc. would save the
City at least $40,000.
Conveying the building to Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc. would prevent the
building's demolition.
Conveying the building to Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc. would permit it to
be relocated to property which is not exempt from real property taxes.
Conveying the building to Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc. would be in the
best interest of the City.
The benefits of conveying the building justify the amount of consideration
received from Kern County Farm Bureau, Inc.
