RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO THE
SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF
CRUELTY TO ANIMALS (SPCA) FOR ITS
MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, in 1977 the City ran the animal control function and contracted with the
County to provide the shelter function using the City's facility on Brundage Lane and Mt.
Vernon; and
WHEREAS, in January, 1979, the SPCA took over the City animal control function
and shelter function, agreeing to hire any permanent City employees affected by the
changeover. The SPCA agreed to an annual fee of $55,000 and $20,000 to be gained
through licensing efforts; and
WHEREAS, the City has contracted with the SPCA for animal control services since
1979; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to thank the SPCA for their years of dedication to our
taxpayers and for their care of animals; and
WHEREAS, financial constraints have made continuation of our relations
impossible; and
WHEREAS, the City hopes to cooperate fully with the SPCA in the transfer of
services to minimize disruption to their employees, the animals in their care, and the
citizens receiving service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference.
2. The City formally thanks the SPCA for their dedicated past services and
extends to them our best efforts at cooperating in the transfer of services.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council
of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on JUN ~; 20D3 , by the
