RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DESIGNATION OF 7TM
STANDARD ROAD AS INTERIM STATE ROUTE 58, AND
STATING THE COUNCIL'S INTENT TO OPPOSE ANY
EFFORT TO EVER DESIGNATE THE WESTSlDE
PARKWAY AS STATE ROUTE 58
WHEREAS, Rosedale Highway west of State Route 99 to State Route 43
(Enos Lane) is currently designated as State Route 58 (SR58); and
WHEREAS, the amount of regional traffic on Rosedale Highway combined
with the interregional traffic using SR 58 has severely lowered the level of service for all
traffic on Rosedale Highway; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has
recognized the Iow level of service for traffic on this segment of SR 58 and is exploring
ways to improve the level of service for SR 58 traffic; and
WHEREAS, one of the initial ways being explored by Caltrans is to
relocate SR58 to 7th Standard Road on an interim basis while further study and
analysis for a permanent SR58 alignment is conducted; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield realizes the benefits to Rosedale
Highway of moving interregional SR58 traffic to 7th Standard and supports this effort;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield intends to oppose any effort to ever
designate the Westside Parkway as SR58.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, as follows:
1. The Council of the City of Bakersfield does by this Resolution show
its support for designating 7th Standard Road as interim SR58.
2. The Council of the City of Bakersfield does by this Resolution state
its intent to oppose any effort to ever designate the Westside Parkway as SR58.
