A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CIXI, CHINA, A
SISTER CITY OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
WHEREAS, in August,
official visit to Cixi,
City Project; and
WHEREAS, in November,
party from Cixi, China,
1994, Dave Urner and Mayor Price made an
China on behalf of the Bakersfield Sister
1994, Mayor Hu Yong-Xian and an official
came to Bakersfield and filed interim
agreements to pursue a sister city relationship; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City Program is recognized worldwide and
is designed to promote mutual understanding and good will by an
exchange of ideas, materials and visits; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City Program has as its aim the bridging
of cultural diversity that divides people, the removal of
misunderstanding that hinders the peaceful exchange of ideas,
customs, youth and sports visits, technological relationships, and
the building of a lasting peace that strengthens individual freedom
and cooperation in a wide variety of social, economic and political
relationships.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Bakersfield
does hereby resolve that the City of Cixi, China, be designated as
Sister City to the City of Bakersfield, authorizes
Bakersfield to sign all documents to implement the
relationship, and that a copy of this resolution be
the Mayor of said city.
