RESOLUTION DETERMINING THAT ADDITIONAL
MOBILE DATA TERMINALS FOR USE WITH THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT'S MOBILE DATA TERMINAL SYSTEM
CANNOT BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USUAL BIDDING
PROCEDURES AND AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE
DIRECTOR TO DISPENSE WITH BIDDING THEREFOR,
NOT TO EXCEED $61,000.00.
WHEREAS, the Police Department purchased a Mobile Data Terminal
(MDT) system during FY 1995-96 manufactured by Motorola Communications and
Electronics, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Motorola MDT System is proprietary and only Mobile
Terminals designed and manufactured by Motorola will access the system and other
terminals; and
WHEREAS, the Police Depastment received budget approval (FY 1995-96)
for eight (8) additional Police vehicles to be completely outfitted including Mobile Data
Terminals; and
WHEREAS, the existing MDT inventory does not have any extra MDT
terminals; and
WHEREAS, the Finance Director has determined, and has recommended that
this Council find, that the new Mobile Data Terminals can only be obtained from one
vendor, Motorola Communications and Electronics, Inc., recommends that this Council
authorize dispensing with bidding therefor in accordance with Section 3.20.060 D of the
Bakersfield Municipal Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by
reference.

The Council hereby finds that the Mobile Data Terminals for the
Police Depa~ tment vehicles can only be obtained from one vendor
because of the proprietary compatibility requirements of the Police
Department Mobile Data Terminal System.

The Finance Director is authorized to dispense with bidding therefor
and to negotiate the purchase of same from Motorola Communications
and Electronics, Inc., not to exceed $61,000.00.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted
by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on
APR 1 ? 1996 , by the following vote:
