A RESOLUTION CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF
HOLDING A GENERAL MUNICIPALELECTION FOR WARDS
2, 5, AND 6, AND REQUESTING THE KERN COUNTY
BOA~RD OF SUPERVISORS ORDER CONSOLIDATION OF
THE ELECTION WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY,
NOVEMBER 5, 1996.
WHEREAS, the California General Election will be held on
November 5, 1996; and
WHEREAS, Section 67 of the Charter of the City of
Bakersfield prescribes that a General Municipal Election for
election of members of the Council shall be held on the first
Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered
year; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That pursuant to the requirements of the laws of the
State of California relating to Charter Cities, the General
Municipal Election is hereby called and ordered consolidated with
the State of California General Election, on Tuesday, November 5,
1996, for the purpose of electing Councilmembers in Wards 2, 5 and
6 for the full term of four years.
2. The Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern is
hereby requested to make an order directing the County Clerk to
consolidate and conduct the General Municipal Election for the
purpose of electing Councilmembers in Wards 2, 5 and 6 to the City
Council of the City of Bakersfield with the State of California
General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 1996.
3. That the polls for the election shall be open at
seven o'clock a.m. of the day of the election and shall remain open
continuously from that time until eight o'clock p.m. of the same
day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section
14401 of the Elections Code of the State of California.
4. The County Clerk is hereby authorized and requested
to canvass the returns of said General Municipal Election and to
certify such canvass of the votes so cast, to the City Clerk.
5. That the City shall reimburse the County for
services performed when the work is completed and upon presentation
to the City of a properly approved bill.
6. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
certify the adoption of this resolution, transmit to and file with
the County Clerk and the Board of Supervisors of the County of
Kern.
7. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
give all Notice~ and perform all advertising as required by law and
perform or cause to be performed all the duties and functions
required by law. That in all particulars not recited in this
resolution, the election shall be held and conducted as provided by
law for holding municipal elections.
