reg&rding Status of the Bakersfield
Convention Center Hotel.
Executive Director Tandy provided a
status report of the Convention Center
Hotel:
1)
The Hammons Firm marketed their
$300 million in investment
instruments, including $11 million
for the taxable portion of the hotel;
a majority of the financing is now
available.
2) The architect is under contract.
3)
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development has approved City's $2.5
million grant; Economic Development
is finalizing the paperwork.

The Trade Counsel has met with the
developer and their general con-
tractor on ways to reconcile their
differences; dialogue will continue.

Some delays on City's bond issue;
some final sections of the documents
are being revised. Pricing should
be February 24, 25, 1994, to close
after March 1, 1994.
6)
Waiting for word from the architect's
office so a ground breaking date can
be set (mid April to early May).

Araujo suggested reviewing the goals and
objectives from March 1993 to evaluate
progress and accomplishments.
Araujo requested the cleaning of the
downtown streets and sidewalks be
addressed during the budget process.
Gaskill requested a report be brought
back regarding streets/sidewalk cleaning
at the meeting of March 14, 1994.

It was agreed that, prior to the meeting of
March 14, 1994, Economic Development Director
Wager would meet with Chairperson Lindsay to
draft a list of topics for discussion as a
possible workshop.
