RESOLUTION DETERMINING THAT CERTAIN MOTOROLA
FIXED RADIO EQUIPMENT CANNOT BE OBTAINED
THROUGH THE USUAL BIDDING PROCEDURES
AND AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO
DISPENSE WITH BIDDING THEREFORE, NOT TO
EXCEED $60,000.
WHEREAS, the CITY of Bakersfield is in need of fixed radio equipment for
replacement purposes; and
WHEREAS, the CITY currently has Motorola radio equipment which has been in
service for the Police Department for the past twenty years; and
WHEREAS, the CITY desires to continue using the Motorola radio equipment
because of their excellent track record and acceptance as a standard within the City of
Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, the CITY desires to integrate the Motorola fixed radio equipment into
the existing City radio communications system; and
WHEREAS, compatible fixed radio equipment is only available from Motorola
Communications, Inc; and
WHEREAS, the Finance Director recommends the Council find said Motorola
fixed digital radio equipment can only be reasonably obtained from Motorola
Communications, Inc., and because of restricted availability of the equipment and
because of the need to integrate the product into an existing City system, recommends
that the Council dispense with the bidding, in accordance with subsection D.2 of Section
3.20.060 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
1. The above-recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference.
The Council hereby finds that the purchase of fixed radio equipment can only
be reasonably obtained from one vendor (Motorola Communications, Inc)
because of the restricted availability of such equipment and because of the
necessity to successfully integrate such supplies, equipment and material into
an existing City system.
The Finance Director is authorized to dispense with bidding therefore and to
negotiate the purchase of same, not to exceed $60,000.
