RESOLUTION APPROVING CULTURAL RESOURCE
DESIGNATION AND FOR PLACEMENT ON THE
BAKERSFIELD REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES FOR
PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1321 "N" STREET.
WHEREAS Edna I. Spencer has applied to the Historic Preservation Commission for
designation of property located at 1321 "N" Street as a Cultural Resource pursuant to Bakersfield
Municipal Code 15.72.070 and for placement on the Bakersfield Register of the Historic Places; and
WHEREAS the Historic Preservation Commission, after consideration of the application
pursuant to the Bakersfield Municipal Code 15.72.060 found the property to be qualified for and
worthy of Cultural Resource Designation on October 17, 1995; and
WHEREAS the property referred to is situated in the City of Bakersfield, County of Kern,
and is described as follows:
Lots 7 to 10 of Block 369 of Assessors Map No. 6-43 of Bakersfield,
County of Kern, State of California.
WHEREAS the Historic Preservation Commission recommends the property to be
designated as a Cultural Resource and that it be placed on the Bakersfield Register of the Historic
Places.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Bakersfield does hereby resolve as
follows:
That the property located at 1321 "N" Street be designated as a Cultural Resource of the City
of Bakersfield; and further,
That the same property be placed upon the records of the Bakersfield Register of Historic
Places; and further~
3. That the City Clerk will notice such designation be recorded with the County Recorder
within fifteen days after action of the City Council.

Description and Significance This house is a 2-story huildin~ w;hh mnlfi-pl~ned
roof, decorative freizes, upper level fish scale siding, and lower level
clapboard siding. A first floor veranda roof has, from left to right, a
91dbmed In sun porch (Iormerly screened) which was probably an early
addition. A secondary peaked gable with decorative frieze and porch trim

main body of the house then continues into the high main roof gable.
At this level, there are two and a half stories. A lnnv~r~d ~pnf ~
located under the main roof gable. The front porch which wraps squarely
around the corner is supperted by decorative posts. Full Queen Anne ornamenta-
tiu~ ~d~[ub Lhl~. A ~[onc ~oor is or,set right on the half front porch. All
windows are double hung.

HOQSE. THE MAIN BODY OF THE HOUSE THEN CONTINUES INTO THE HIGH
MAIN ROOF GABLE. AT THIS ~EVEL~THERE ARE TWO AND A HALF STORIES.
A LOUVERED VENT IS LOCATED QNDER THE MAIN ROOF GABLE. THE FRONT
PORCH WHICH WRAPS SQUARLY A.ROUND THE CORNER IS SQPPORTED BY DECORATIVE
POSTS. FULL Q~EEN ANNE ORNAMENTATION ADORNS THIS. A FRC~T D OCR IS .-
OFFSET RIGHT ON THE HALF FRONT PORCH. A~ WINDOWS ARE DOUBLE HUNG.

OF PIONEER VILLAGE IN THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD. IT IS PROBABLY 'THE
FINEST EXAMPLE OF QE, EEN ANNE/EASTLAKE ARCHITECTURE IN THE AREA. IT
IS EXCEPTIONALLY INTERESTING ARCHITECTURALLY AND WOULD QUALIFY IN
A NATIONAL REGISTER DISTRICT.
