A RESOLUTION REQUESTING
AND SANTA FE RAILROAD
INTERMODAL RAMP OPEN
195-95
BURLINGTON NORTHERN
KEEP THE CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad has
been an important part of Bakersfield for a number of years; and
WHEREAS, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad and the
City of Bakersfield have cooperated together on numerous occasions
for the betterment of the community and the railroad; and
WHEREAS, easily accessible railroad shipping is vital to the
economy of Bakersfield and Kern County; and
WHEREAS, adequate commercial shipping facilities are essential
to maintaining a healthy economy and create incentive for new
business in the economy; and
WHEREAS, there has been discussion that the Burlington
Northern and Santa Fe Railroad may close in the future the vitally
essential California Intermodal Ramp in this City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of
Bakersfield does hereby go on record to encourage the Burlington
Northern and Santa Fe Railroad to consider all of the ramifications
that closure will have not only to their business but to this
community for which they have been a long-term partner and,
therefore, keep that ramp open either permanently or for at least
one year until alternative methods of rail transportation can be
developed.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
