A RESOLUTIONAUTHORIZINGAPPLICATION
FOR STATE FUNDING FOR SEISMIC
STRENGTHENING AND ~4ABILITATION OF
CITY FIRE STATION NO. 2.
WHEREAS, the Earthquake Safety and Public Buildings
Rehabilitation Bond Act of 1990 ("Bond Act") provides $300 million
in general obligation bonds for the reconstruction, repair,
replacement, relocation, or retrofitting of seismically deficient
State and local government buildings; and
~, City Fire Station No. 2 is an unreinforced
masonry building which has been found to be unsafe in the event of
an earthquake by qualified engineers; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield desires to apply to the
State under the Bond Act for funds to retrofit Fire Station No. 2
(the "project") in order to make it seismically safe; and
WHEREAS, preliminary design engineering has determined
that it will cost approximately $423,000 to retrofit Fire Station
No. 2 so as to make it seismically safe; and
WHEREAS, if the City's application to the State for
funding under the Bond Act is approved, 75% of the cost of the
project will be paid for by the State; and
W/{EREAS, if the project is approved by the State, the
City of Bakersfield will pay 25% of the project cost.
NOW, T~Rw~FORE, BE IT ~-~OLVEDby the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct.
2. The City Manager or his designee is hereby
authorized to file all documents required by the State of
California with regard to the application for funding and all other
related documents concerning the project.
