A RESOLUTIONAUTHORIZINGTHESALEOF
TWO BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
FLEET ~ICLES TO TAFT COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Police Department currently
possesses two fleet vehicles which are scheduled to be taken out of
service in the near future and auctioned to the community; and
WHEREAS, Taft College has requested that the City sell
its surplus fleet vehicles to Taft College and has offered to pay
$500.00 per vehicle; and
W~EP~2%S, fleet vehicles have, in the past, sold for
$750.00 to $1000.00 at public auction; and
WHEREAS, Taft College is currently developing a police
reserve officer training course and is in need of emergency
vehicles to complete required performance objectives; and
WHEREAS, currently no other local college is providing
training for citizens who wish to become reserve police officers;
and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that Taft College will become
the Bakersfield Police Department's main resource for qualified
reserve officer applicants; and
WHEREAS, Subsection F of Section 3.20.120 of the
Bakersfield Municipal Code permits the Finance Director to
negotiate for the sale of surplus equipment to another governmental
entity, subject to confirmation and approval by the City Council,
which, in its discretion, may authorize or reject the sale.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PFmOLVEDby the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
1. The foregoing recitals are true and correct and
incorporated as though fully set forth herein.
2. The Finance Director is hereby authorized, pursuant
to Subsection F of Section 3.20.120 of the Bakersfield Municipal
Code, to sell the two surplus fleet vehicles to Taft College for
$500.00 per vehicle.
