HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 225-92RESOLUTION NO. .2.~ 5 - 9 2 A RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO THE MANNER IN WHICH RESOLUTIONS WERE ADOPTED AT THE 94TN ANNUAL LEAGUE CONFERENCE HELD IN LOS ANGELES, OCTOBER 10 13, 1992 WHEREAS, the League of California Cities is the association upon which all California cities depend for information and advocacy; and WHEREAS, the annual conference of the League of California cities is the most important annual event of that association in terms of sharing information and expertise, setting League policy, and acknowledging incoming and outgoing officers and other representatives: and WHEREAS, one very important aspect of the Annual Conference is the general business meeting when the membership takes action on Conference Resolutions; and WHEREAS, in past years the time for final voting on Conference Resolutions was scheduled on the afternoon before the final day of the Conference and was meeting solely for the purpose of voting on the Conference Resolutions by each city's official Voting Delegate; and WHEREAS, during the League Conference in Los Angeles held October 10 - 13, 1992, the voting on the conference Resolution took place on the afternoon of the last day of the Conference and followed other business of the general business meeting, causing the voting to be postponed until mid-afternoon on Tuesday, the last day of the Conference; and WHEREAS, it appeared that some cities, particularly cities in Northern California, had to leave the Conference before the vote came up on the resolutions, which contained issued of particular interest to Northern California cities; and WHEREAS, representatives from several cities voiced their concern about the scheduling of the voting at that time. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Bakersfield urges the Board of Directors and staff of the League of California Cities to look carefully at the scheduling of voting on Conference Resolutions at future annual conferences and to schedule a time and place for that vote which is not in conflict with other important business meeting items or in conflict with the travel schedules of representatives leaving the Conference on the final day of the Conference. .......... o0o ..........
