HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 26-00RESOLUTION NO. 2 6 ' 00 A RESOLUTION SEEKING A FAIR SHARE OF KERN COUNTY TOBACCO SETTLEMENT REVENUE FOR ALL COUNTY TAXPAYERS. RECITALS WHEREAS, the State of California has settled litigation with tobacco manufacturers leading to a financial windfall of $206 billion in Tobacco Settlement Revenue over a 25 year period; and WHEREAS, each of California's 56 counties will receive a portion of this Tobacco Settlement Revenue in each of the next 25 years; and WHEREAS, Tobacco Settlement Revenue accruing to Kern County in Fiscal Year 2000-2001 is approximately $9.5 million; and WHEREAS, all taxpayers and residents of Kern County including those living within the boundaries of incorporated cities should share equitably in the benefit of Tobacco Settlement Revenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference. The City of Bakersfield hereby joins the incorporated cities of Kern County in encouraging the Kern County Board of Supervisors to subvent Tobacco Tax Settlement dollars annually received by the County to each incorporated city in Kern County on a per capita basis to provide a fair and equitable share of Tobacco Settlement Revenue to municipal residents, ..........
