Huey, Hazardous Materials Coordinator/~t,'~ SUBJECT: File Search for Environmental Problems Associated with URM Properties Per your request, the listed properties were researched to determine if any known hazardous waste or radioactive materials were present at or reasonably near these projects. 903 18th Street 1228 19th Street 709-711 Sumner Street A review of existing underground storage tank and business plan files for these sites, show 1228 19th Street and 709-711 Sumner Street, have no record of current or previous hazardous material storage at these sites. 903 18th Street however, was formerly occupied by Valley Machine Shop. When this facility was operated as Valley Machine Shop, Hazardous Materials were stored on site. An abandoned underground storage tank was found on this property in June of 1995 and removed on August 11, 1995. The tank was decontaminated on site and soil borings were removed from under the tank to check for soil contamination. The tests were found to be "non-detect" (free of hydrocarbon contamination) and the site closed. None of the sites appear on the States list of known contaminated sites and City of Bakersfield records, as well as Kern County Environmental Health records, were reviewed and no indication of contamination found. Rinsate was disposed of at Gibson Environmental in Bakersfield, California under hazardous waste manifes~ #93196543. The tanks were removed to Golden State Metals. Soil was samplied under the direction of the Bakersfield City Fire Department. The samples were analyzed at BC Labs of Bakersfield for TPH Gas BTX&E. A complete chemical analysis is enclosed. In addition to the lab results, copies of the manifest, chain of custody and the tank disposition tracking record are enclosed.
