Zj[ 2" 0 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD COMMITTING FUNDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSING FOR VERY-LOW INCOME SENIOR CITIZENS WHEREAS, there is a need in the City of Bakersfield (the "City") for decent, safe and sanitary housing and particularly for housing affordable to very-low income senior citizens; and WHEREAS, available land that is suitable for senior citizen housing development is limited and probable land acquisition costs indicate a need to provide significant levels of financial assistance for the new construction o1! housing projects; and WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Senior Center, Inc., a California non-profit, public benefit corporation, and Retirement Housing Foundation, a California non-profit, public benefit corporation ("the Co-sponsors"), have submitted a proposal with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD") to construct an 80-unit residential complex ("the project") to house very-low income senior citizens; and WHEREAS, the likelihood of approval of Co-sponsors' proposal by HUD is significantly increased where there is a commitment of local funding provided to the project; and WHEREAS, the Co-sponsors are seeking assistance of $25,000.00 from the City for construction of the project; and WHEREAS, the City desires to commit $25,000.00 towards the construction of the project as resolved herein; and WHEREAS, City may provide technical assistance to identify other cost reductions typically made available for senior housing projects. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. The above recitals are true and cor~'ect; 2. The City hereby commits the amount of $25,000.00 towards construction of the project. The City's commitment of funding shall be contingent upon the following condition precedent: -- Page 1 of 2 Pages -- Co-sponsor's proposal being accepted and Section 202 financing provided by HUD for the project. 3.
