APPLICABILITY I APPROVAL
Any situation which causes injuries, death, property damage
and/or chemical spills on Baroid property and/or involves
Baroid Petroleum Services employees, products, equipment,
vehicles, .aircraft. or vessels wherever they may be located. '
I. PURPOSE
To supply each location with a guide to use during an emergency that will
ensure:
A. Fast medical care for the injured.
B. Protection against further injuries.
C. Confinement of the effects on property to the smallest area.
D. Notification of required Baroid, Corporate and Governmental
authorities.
E. Protection of property, equipment and the legal rights of NL Baroid
Petroleum Services.
II. SCOPE
This emergency action plan includes, but is not limited to the following:
A. Serious injury or death of an employee or other personnel on Baroid
property, in an accident involving a Baroid vehicle, vessel or
aircraft, or a Baroid employee on the job whatever the location.
B. Fires or explosions on Baroid property, that damage or threaten
Baroid property, vessels, equipment or personnel.
C. Fires or explosions off Baroid property that damage Baroid equipment
or injure Baroid personnel or involve the usage of Baroid products.
D. Well blow-outs or other emergency conditions on wells where Baroid
products and/or equipment is bei6g used.
E. Earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes or other natural disasters that
damage Baroid property, equipment, vehicles, vessels, aircraft
and/or materials.

III. RESPONSIBILITIES
A. The employee discovering the emergency will be responsible to notify
his/her supervisor immediately and assist as directed by the
supervisor.
B. The supervisor is responsible to:
1. Notify his immediate supervisor (e.g. District Manager or Plant
Manager).
2. Take whatever action is deemed necessary to alert community
emergency response units; e.g., ambulance, fire department,
~. police, etc., as directed by the Manager.
3. See that first aid is rendered to anyone injured and protect
them from further injury.
4. Take whatever action is warranted to properly protect human
:,life, and keep the situation from worsening as directed by the
Manager.
C. The District or Plant Manager is responsible to:
1. Notify the following immed!ately:
a. The Safety Department

2. Take charge (or appoint someone to take charge) of the
activities at the scene necessary to protect human life and keep
the situation from worsening.

personnel, etc., if on Baroid property.

4. If news media personnel arrive, at the scene:
a. Do not make a statement; inform them that no statement will
be given until a complete investigation is made. ~
b. If on Baroid property, try to assign an employee to stay
~. with the news media personnel and keep them in a particular
location - ideally a meeting room, etc., with access to
coffee and telephone service.
5. Notify the family of any injured Baroid employee as soon as
practical. This notification shall not include any description
beyond the time, location and essential facts of the occurrence,
and the current status and location of the injured employee.
.... 6. Follow instructions from Supervisor, Safety Department or other
Baroid management and keep them informed as directed.
7. Appoint an employee (if available) to take pictures of the scene
·~ as soon as possible.
D. The Regional, Affiliate or Department Manager is responsible to:
1. Notify his~her immediate supervisor as soon as possible after
notification of the emergency.
2. Review actions taken and actions to be taken at the scene with
local manager and supervisor.

Baroid upon consulting with his/her supervisor.

interest of Baroid upon consulting with his/her supervisor.
4. Keep his/her supervisor informed as directed by them.

G. The President of NL Baroid Petroleum Services:
1. Notify the President and Chief Executive Officer of the
Corporation if warranted.
2. Review actions taken and actions planned to be taken at the
scene.
3. Authorize and .appoint members of his staff to contact
appropriate Corporate personnel.
4. If Baroid employee is killed, visit (or'appoint a representative
to visit)- the accident site within twenty-four (24) hours and
report the details to the President of the Corporation.
5. If a non-Baroid employee, is killed from an accident involving
Baroid facilities, equipment or personnel and the circumstances
indicate that his/her personal involvement is necessary, visit
(or appoint a representative to visit) the accident site within
twenty-four (24) hours and report the details to the President
of the Corporation, if warranted.
6. Approve any and all public statements given by Baroid employees -, to the news media.

H. The Safety Department shall:
1. Advise local managers on actions to be taken and .have
representatives on the scene as soon as possible. ~
2. Act as liaison with 'Baroid and Corporate Departments, all gov-
ernmental and insurance investigators, etc., as directed by the
President of NL Baroid Petroleum Services.
3. Investigate the incident thoroughly and keep management personnel
informed as to findings and complications.
4. Assist in whatever manner deemed necessary and appropriate to
properly protect Baroid's interest.
5. File a detailed report as soon as possible after the completion of
the investigation and supply supplemental reports if appropriate.
6. Notify Director of Employee Relations as soon as possible and review
actions taken and planned to be taken.
I. Employee Relations Department shall:
1. Assist as directed by the President of NL Baroid Petroleum Services.
2. Coordinate and file for employee death benefits, if applicable.
3. Meet with family members and detail death benefits, if applicable.
