THERE IS NO MANUAL HANDLING OF HAZMAT. PRIMARY TANKS ARE CONSTRUCTED OF FIBERGLASS-REINFORCED PLASTIC WHICH IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE MATERIALS STORED. PIPING IS OF HDPE WITH PVC SECONDARY SHELLS. TANKS ARE PROVIDED WITH CONCRETE SECONDARY CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES. BASIC MATERIALS ARE SEGREGATED FROM ACIDIC MATERIALS. STORAGE TANKS ARE PROVIDED WITH FOUNDATION FLANGES THAT ARE SECURED TO THE CONCRETE CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES WITH ANCHOR BOLTS FOR SEISMIC 9 9 = Release Containment 10/08/2003 THE STORAGE TANKS, PIPING, VALVES, AND PUMPS ARE INSPECTED REGULARLY AND MAINTAINED TO A HIGH STANDARD TO MINIMIZE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A RELEASE. LEAK DETECTION AND MONITORING PROCEDURES: Storage tanks of hazardous material are provided with ultrasonic level-sensing devices that provide feedback to the system control PLC. If there is a loss of stored material, other than a metered matel-ial withdrawal to the process, an alarm is given to the system operator at the administrative building. Tanks, valves, pumps and piping are inspected daily by the system operator for integrity, damage and any signs of malfunction or material leakage. .: B. EMPLOYEE AND AGENCY NOTIFICATION: In the event of a release of hazardous material the system operator will: · Notify supervisor of fire condition, or hazardoU~s material release. · Supervisor will assess emergency, evacuate and/or initiate' corrective action, notify emergency response contacts, and coordinate staff corrective efforts. · Immediately after evacuating the affected area or building, check in at the evacuation assembly area (see attached site map). · In the event of a release that is a threat to life, safety or the environment, the supervisor will call 9-1-1 and the Office of Emergency Services at 1-800-852-7550. HAZARD ASSESSMENT AND PREVENTION MEASURES: A release of hazardous material is unlikely due to the inherent safety factors designed into the facility. All hazardous material is transferred by process control, there is no · manual handling of hazardous material. Primary tanks are constructed of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FPP) which is fully compatible with the materials stored. Piping is of HDPE with PVC secondary shells. Tanks are provided with concrete secondary · containment structures. Basic materials (Sodium Hydroxide and Sodium Hypochlorite) are segregated from acidic materials (Ferric Chloride and Zinc Orthophosphate). Storage tanks are provided with foundation flanges that are secured to the concrete containment structures with anchor bolts for seismic protection.. B. RELEASE CONTAINMENT AND/OR MITIGATION: The Storage tanks, piping, valves and pumps are inspected regularly and maintained to a high standard to minimize the likelihood of a release. If a release should occur, the release material will be contained within the secondary containment structure and an alarm will be given to the system operator. B. CLEAN-UP AND RECOVERY PROCEDURES: Small spills will be cleaned up by on-site personnel who will recover as much as possible for process use. Large spills will be handled by an outside contractor.
