A P P E N D I X I I IN THE EVENT OF A SPILL Any spill which occurs at a Tuneup Masters shoo will be very minor in nature but it will be treated as a ma]or disaster. The fluids that would spill would, of course, be the Safety Kleen oarts washer, the Safety Kleen carburetor cleaner, and bulk new oil or the overturning of a canister with used motor oil or transmission fluid. [12] TUNEUP MASTERS~ INC. Our major concern in the event of a'spill is to prevent it from reaching sewer systems. This is easily done by damming the flow using the Hazmat dry absorbent contained in each and every shop. Quickly pour this absorbent material ahead Of the flow of the fluid. If necessary quickly stuff rags into the drain or close the grate and add the absorbent material on top to soak up any residual amount that may get this far. Once you have stopped the flow continue adding the necessary absorbent material until all the linuid is contained. With the emergency over you will now contact the Director of Environmental Safety at 1-800-425-55547 Extension 645. In his absence you will contact the Vice President of Human Resources at the same number on Extension 541. In his absence you will contact~the President on Extension 512 or the Chairman of the Board on Extension 500. These persons will make the necessary calls to the Office of Emergency Services and to the County Health Department and they will institute the proper and legal method for the removal of any materials which become contaminated in the emergency procedure. If it is after hours you are to call any of the persons listed in your shop management handbook at their homes for further direction. The procedure may seem detailed~ but the job is simple: keep the fluid from reaching the drains or the earth. Occasionally flash fires can occur from leading carburetors on cars, something which we see by the side of the road every day. It is the Shoo Manager's responsibility to be certain that all fire extinguishers nresent in the shop are serviced regularly and after each use. It is also the Shop Manager's responsibility to be certain that each employee knows the location of every fire extinguisher and how to use it. This training must be given on the first day on the job. In the event of one of these flash fires than the person closest to the extinguisher will use it and it alone to douse the flames. Fortunately, these occurrences are very rare, but be prepared and above all stay calm. Should it ever become apparent that you have lost control of the fire do not hesitate to call the numbers listed in this booklet for immediate help from the Fire Department. Puc greatest concern is injury to your our fellow employees, to our customers and to our neighbors, in such a case use the methods outlined above to warn all oersonnel You will evacuate the premises to the assigned assembly area. Administer First Aid if necessary until paramedics and firemen arrive. The manager in charge will then be responsible for advising the Fire Captain of the location of any chemical in the shop which could burn and require s0ecial fire fighting procedures. This information has been furnished in advance to the Fire Department, Out we must remain available to them should then need additional information or assistance. As employees of Tuneup Masters you are to portray the image of professionalism even in the face of such disasters and you will be concerned with the safety El3] TUNEUP MASTERS, INC. Emerg~O~_~QO~_plan of ally employees, customers and neighbors before you notify the office of the incident. This will require a roll call at the assembly area and assistance in getting customers or employees home whose vehicles may be damaged by the firel Again, stay calm and apply the safety techniques, safe handling and working procedures in which you've been trained.
