HomeMy WebLinkAboutUNDERGROUND TANK FILE #1 'NOTE TO FILE On Friday, February 9, 2001, I went out to access the abandoned UST found at the comer of 22nd and Chester Ave. This property is owned by Dr. Daniel Nolan, and a letter was sent advising him of the abandoned UST, on February 6, 2001 by Howard Wines. I determined that the orientation of the tank runs North & South. This was accomplished by hand shoveling out approximately 1' to the side of the tank. The tank had a pronounced slope indicating that it was round. I further determined that the tank was approximately 250 gallons. There was 44" of space inside the tank which means the tank is approximately 4' long. No LEL was detected. The tank is dry with n_9_o "free product" inside. My recommendation, based On Cities desire to put a tree there, is closure in place and fill tank with dirt. I have reviewed with Ralph Huey, and it is his decision to abandon in place. I don't think Public Works would have an objection to abandoning the tank in place by filling it with a cement/sand slurry if the tree could be planted there. Part of that decision would depend on how large and what volume the tank is. I will send a copy of this to Don Hoggatt, our Landscape Architect, who can go by and help determine how a tree will do in that tree-well. Please let me know if you have an estimate of the tank size. Jack, please let me know if the tank should be removed irrespective of the size. >>> Howard Wines 02/06 3:23 PM >>> I loOked into the tank & it's bone dry. I talked to Dr. Nolan, DDS, who owns the bldg & sent him an order to remove or properly abandon the tank. Problem may be that the tank's too close to the bldg to be removed. Alternative is to fill tank w/cement. You might still be able to get a tree in there as the tank is Iow.enough to fit the root ball above it. I'll wait until we hear back from whoever Dr. Nolan selects as his tank contractor on whether physical removal can be done w/o undermining the bldg foundation.
