IVIATER L SAFETY DATA S ET .^GE 2 CHEMICALS 10/20/87 PRODUCT NAME: BREAXIT 1513 7-1513 N0.71513000 INGESTION: If swallowed, and INDIVIDUAL IS CONSCIOUS, induce vomiting. Get prompt medical attention. DO NOT attempt to give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. The principle hazard of methyl alcohol arises from its ingestion as a substitute for ethyl alcohol. As little as 15 ml (1/2 oz.) of 40% methyl alcohol has caused death. The most significant systemic effect caused by sublethal doses of methyl alcohol is the damage to the optic nerve which can result in permanent visual changes, loss of vision or total blindness. PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMIT; OSHA REQUIRES (29CFR1910.1000): a TWA of 200 ppm (260 mg/m3) for Methyl Alcohol (skin). THRESHOLD EXPOSURE .LIMIT; ACGIH RECObIHENDS: a TWA of 200 ppm (260 mg/m3), and a STEL of 250 ppm (310 mg/m3) for Methyl Alcohol (skin). PERSONAL PROTECTION For open systems where contact is likely, wear chemical resistant gloves, rubber boots, a chemical jacket, chemical goggles, and a face shield. Where contact may occur, wear.long sleeves, chemical resistant gloves, and a face shield. All contact should be avoided by persons with known hypersensitivity to AMINES Where concentrations in air may exceed the limits given in this Section and engineering, work practice or other means of exposure reduction are not adequate. NIOSH/MSHA approved respirators may be necessary to prevent overexposure by inhalation. VENTILATION The use of mechanical dilution ventilation is recommended whenever this product is used in a confined space, is heated above ambient temperatures. or is agitated. SECTION IV FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARD FLASHPOINT DEG. F : 210 METHOD: Sera CC NOTE: Greater than FLAMMABLE LIMITS-LEL: UEL: NOTE: Not applicable AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE DEG. F : NOTE: Not available GENERAL HAZARD Low Hazard, liquid can burn upon heating to temperatures at or above the flashpoint. Toxic gases will form upon combustion. Empty product containers may contain product residue. Do not pressurize, cut, heat, weld or expose containers to flame or other sources of ignition. FIRE FIGHTING Use water spray to cool fire exposed surfaces and to protect personnel. Isolate "fuel" supply from fire. Use alcohol type foam, dry chemical or water spray to extinguish fire. Irritating, and will injure eye tissue if not removed promptly. SKIN CONTACT: Flush with large amounts of water; use soap if available. Remove grossly contaminated clothing, including shoes, and launder before reuse. If irritation persists, seek medical attention, Methyl alcohol may be absorbed through the skin which can contribute to damage of the optic nerve resulting in permanent visual changes, loss of vision or total blindness. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction which becomes evident on reexposure to this material. INHALATION: Using proper respiratory protection, immediately remove the affected victim from exposure. Administer artificial respiration if breathing is stopped. Keep at rest. Call for prompt medical attention.
