HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 57-00RESOLUTION NO. 5 ~' "0 0 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE MASTER PLAN FOR THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS FOR 2000-2005. WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield Department of Recreation and Parks was officially recognized as its own department in June 1998; and WHEREAS, the primary goal of the City of Bakersfield Department of Recreation and Parks is to provide the highest quality services, facilities, parks and programs possible to the residents of Bakersfield; and WHEREAS, City Council approved funds for the preparation of a Master Plan for recreation facilities and programs as part of the Recreation and Parks fiscal year 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 budget; and WHEREAS, having a master plan for the Department of Recreation and Parks will allow the City Council to recommend certain coumes of action to meet recreation and park demands and needs of the community; and WHEREAS, having a Master Plan is a typical requirement to qualifying for government and private grants necessary to fund future park and recreation facilities and programs; and WHEREAS, the Master Plan for the Recreation and Parks Department for 2000- 2005 was completed by Play-Safe Consulting, LLC, which was selected and approved from among four qualified firms; and WHEREAS, the basis of the Master Plan for the Recreation and Parks Department for 2000~2005 consisted of an inventory of current recreation and park facilities and programs, an analysis of demographic statistics and growth patterns within the City of Bakersfield, as well as surveys and discussions with various focus groups to reveal the demand of citizens, and evaluate future priorities for the Department of Recreation and Parks; and WHEREAS, the Master Plan for the Recreation and Parks Department for 2000- 2005 incorporates the findings of the above mentioned surveys, statistics, and discussions and sets forth a long-term strategic plan for the City, which can be modified over time depending on the needs of the community, to meet public recreation and park facility and program demands and needs, as well as funding strategies for the City. The Recreation and Parks Master Plan for the City of Bakersfield Department of Recreation and Parks 2000-2005 is hereby approved and adopted. The strategies within the Recreation and Parks Master Plan for the City of Bakersfield Department of Recreation and Parks 2000-2005 is dependent the needs of the community and thus, flexible and subject to change, without City Council approval. ..... 000oo .....
