A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF T~US CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING GOLDEN F. Z4PIRE TRANSIT
IN ITS ALT~a~IATIVE TRANSPORTATION DAY
ACTIVITIES SET FOR APRIL 19, 1990.
WHEREAS, the nation, our communities, and our citizens
face a mounting array of challenges to our health and safety from
declining environmental conditions; and
WqIEREAS, increasing gridlock and traffic congestion,
declining air quality, increasing energy dependence and reliance
on foreign oil will continue to plague us as we move into this
decade; and
WHEREAS, the increased availability and use of Golden
Empire Transit and other forms of high occupancy, shared-ride
services represent a critical strategy in alleviating these
national problems; and
WHEREAS, the international celebration of Alternate
Transportation Day of Earth Week which fall on April 19, 1990,
will heighten public awareness of our environment, including the
role of Golden Empire Transit, in improving the quality of the
air we breathe, and it will launch on Earth Day, April 22, 1990,
a new decade of environmental activism.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL~w-.~ that the Council of the
City of Bakersfield hereby supports Golden Empire Transit in its
Alternate Transportation Day (Earth Week) activities set for
April 19, 1990, and encourages those that can to carpool or ride
the bus on that day.
