A RESOLUTION OF TIlE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REAFFIRMING ITS SUPPORT FOR A
~IVERSITY CAMPUS SITE WITHINI~TKOPOLITAN
BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, the University of California is currently
conducting an investigation for the location of a new site for a
campus within the San Joaquin Valley; and
WHEREAS, metropolitan Bakersfield offers an ideal
location for a new U~niversity of California campus, based upon its
immediately adjacent location to one of the largest and most
dynamic metropolitan centers in the state and the nation; and
WHEREAS, metropolitan Bakersfield sits as the cross roads
of major national east/west and state north/south transportation
corridors and offers one of the only two cross Sierra all-weather
routes in California; and
WHEREAS, this region is experiencing dynamic growth
necessitating the need for expanded educational facilities within
the county; and
W/~EREAS, as one of the few growth areas remaining in the
state, this region will require additional educational training
facilities if it is to meet the employment requirements of this new
economic expansion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEDby the Council of the City
Bakersfield as follows:
That the City of Bakersfield strongly supports
the placement of a University of California
campus within metropolitan Bakersfield.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on ~PR ~ 1990 , by the
