Minutes of the Budget Workshop of the Council of the
City of Bakersfield, California, held in the Council Chambers
of City Hall, 1501 Truxtun Avenue, at 5:15 p.m., May 30, 1990.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Medders.

FISCA/~ YEAR 1990-91 PROPOSED BUDG~
John Stinson, Assistant to the City Manager, provided
an overview of the 1990-91 Proposed Budget. He stated that the
total Budget for the FY 1990-91 is $146,561,156.
Police Chief Robert Patterson spoke regarding the
Proposed FY 1990-91 Budget for the Police Department and
explained the need for an increase in overtime for officers
while they appear in court.
Fire Chief Dennis Needham spoke regarding the
Proposed FY 1990-91 Budget for Fire Department services and
suggested that the Council consider other means of providing
fire protection to offset costs, such as residential fire
sprinklers, decreasing the size of commercial structures where
fire sprinklers are installed, and noncombustible roofs.
DEPARTMENTAL BUDGETS REVIEW
John Stinson, Assistant to the City Manager, provided
a review of each Department's budget and explained increases
and decreases within each Department.
Councilmember DeMond asked Chief

was adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
