Orange County Regional Office California Estate Industrial Department 18400 Von Karman Avenue, Suite 200 Irvine, California 92715v1514 RE: Tank Removal and Site Assessment at.the Exxon Facility located at 2600 Oswell Street in Bakersfield, California Dear Ms. Jordan: On April 6, 1989, a letter was received by a representative of this Department requesting information on the tank removal completed at the Exxon facility once located at 260'00swell Street' in Bakersfield, California. An abandonment file was assessed, which contained the permit issued for removal of 4 tanks, the laboratory results of samples taken to determine whether any release'had occurred from the underground tanks or their associated ,piping and a final report prepared after site clean-up~ The permit issued was A833-9. Gasoline contamination was detected in three soil samples retrieved in. the following areas: 1 Beneath the northeast dispenser. 2. Beneath a section of piping on the southside of the facility. L. Contamination appeared to be limited. The proposa-1 to excavate the contaminated soil and sample to ~onfirm cleanup was approved.by a representative of this Department. The contamination. was removed and lab results of samples retrieved within the excavation suggested that all contamination was removed. A Environmental Health Department letter'was issued on. December 19, 1988, approving, of'the assessment, and stating that no significant contamination remained in the areas once occupied bY the underground tanks as suggested by all reports submitted..
