SUPPLIES SUCH AS LUBRICANTS~ SOLVENTS, PAINTS,' AND THINNERS, ENGINE COOLANT, AND BATTERY ACID ARE KEPT IN SECURE DESIGNATED AREAS WITH ACCESS LIMITED TO AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL. MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL IS DISPENSED FROM A CENTRAL FACILITY NHERE SAFETY NOTICIES ARE POSTED TO PREVENT SMOKING; FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE LOCATED AT OR NEAR THE FUEL PUMPS. ALL PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ARE MAINTAINED DURING FILLING OF. THE UNDERGROUND FUEL TANKS, AND DURING VEHICLE FUELING. WASTE OILS, SOLVENTS, ANTIFREEZE, AND CONTAMINATED FUEL ARE KEPT IN .55 GALLON METAL DRUMS WITHIN AN HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE BLDG. SEVERAL OTHER COMPATIBLE SOLID WASTES ARE ALSO STORED IN' IT IN OPEN-HEAD METAL DRUMS. WASTE BATTERY ELECTROLYTE (ACID) IS STORED IN 15 GALLON PLASTIC DRUMS ON HARDTOP ON THE S SIDE OF THE BLDG; NEUTRALIZING AGENT (SODIUM BICARBONATE AND/OR CALCIUM CARBONATE) IS ALSO STORED IN THE BATTERY RECHARGE AREA FOR USE IN THE EVENT OF A' SPILL. AN EMERGENY SHONER AND EYEWASH STATION IS AVAILABLE IN CASE OF PERSONNEL CONTAMINATION. WASTE BATTERIES ARE STACKED ON PALLETS ON HARDTOP OUTDOORS UNTIL TURNED IN THROUGH NORMAL SUPPLY CHANNELS. BUCKETS AND/OR BAGS OF ABSORBANT MATERIAL ARE KEPT NEAR LIQUID DISPENSING AND STORAGE AREAS FOR USE IN THE EVENT OF SPILLS OR LEAKS. VEHICLE AND PERSONNEL TRAFFIC IS LIMITED TO MILITARY DEPT PERSONNEL, APPROVED VENDORS AND CONTRACTORS, AND OTHER AUTHORIZED PERSONS WITHIN THE FACILITY PERIMETER FENCE. <2> Release Contaffnment IT IS THE POLICY OF THE STATE MILITARY DEPT.THAT ALL OIL AHD HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE SPILLS OR THREATENED RELEASES BE REPORTED TO THE SHOP CHIEF OR HIS ALTERNATE. IN THE EVENT OF A SPILL, THE NORMAL COURSE OF ACTIONFOR THE DISCOVERER SHOULD BE: 1) REPORT THE SPILL TO ONE'S IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR OR DIRECTLY TO THE SHOP CHIEF. 2) STOP THE FLOW IF POSSIBLE 3) CONTAIN THE FLOW USING WHATEVER MEANS THAT ARE READILY AVAILABE: FOR OIL, FUELS, ANTIFREEZE, AND SOLVENTS USE ABSORBANT MATERIAL,. SWEEPING COMPOUND, SOIL, AND/OR SANDBAGS; FOR ELECTROLYTE (BATTERY ACID) USE CALCIUM.'CARBONATE, OR SODIUM BICARBONATE (BAKING SODA). THE DISCOVERER SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS HIMSELF AND OTHERS FROM SPILLED MATERIAL.
