HAZARDOUS COMMUNICATION~ PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION
Dewey Pest Control considers the health and safety of its employees
of the utmost importance. The following outline will describe how our
company will accomplish this task.
Dewey Pest Control has developed a plan of communication so that
all employees that may be exposed to hazardous materials may be made
aware of the potential hazards.
As of 12/17/86 a notice was posted on all bulletin boards in all
Dewey Pest Control offices that all employees may request Material
'~afetyData Sheets and copies of their rights.
This document however will explain the companies program.
DETERMINATION OF HAZARDS
Dewey Pest Control will rely Upon tests and evaluations performed
by the manufacturers of ~the substances it 'uses, and not evaluate any
hazardous substances purchased from suppliers and/or manufacturers itself.
LABELING
Ail containers of hazardous materials must be properly labeled at
all times.

Any incoming materials must be inspected at the time of delivery
for proper labeling. Any containers not properly labeled should
'not be accepted.
B. Unless a container is properly labeled, it shall not be released
for use.
C. The chemical name of contents, name and address of the manu-
facturers, and appropriate hazard warnings must be on the label.

Secondary containers shall be labeled (at least) with some type
of code number, or other designation, so that all employees.

Dewey Pest Control requires all employees that may be exposed
to hazardous materials to have;
1.: In the office readily available, labels, M.S.D.S
2. On the job site readily available, labels, M.S.D.S.
(normally in the service vehicle)
F. Responsibility:
As Dewey Pest Control has many offices throughout California,
the person/s responsible for the fore-mentioned will be the
branch management listed on the following page. This list will
be updated as current as possible.

MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (M.S.D.S.'s)

Dewey Pest Control maintains that all employees that may be
exposed to hazardous substances, will have labels and Material
Safety Data Sheets in all service vehicles.
M.S.D.S. will be at all times readily accessable to all
employees, (office or service) in all offices of Dewey Pest
Control during normal business hours.
Ail Hazardous Communication program information, M.S.D.S. Books,
Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response Plans will be maintained
in every office.
There Will be a diagram of the facility on the wall of each
office which will indicate where these items will be kept.
Maintenance of all of the above items will be the responsibility
of the branch management, listed on the following page.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE LIST
Section 5194 of the General Industry Safety OrdeKs, gives a list
of materials that are considered hazardous, however this list is not
all conclusive. If a substance has been given a M.S.D.S. it should be
considered a Hazardous Substance.
EMPLOYEE INFORMATION AND TRAINING
A. All personel that are exposed to hazardous materials are required
to study and pass certified applicators tests before going into
the field. (This must be documented). Fumigation personel are
: not required to pass an examination, but will be trained in
accordance with order 5194.
B. All personel must be trained in how to obtain the fore-mention
material.

This responsibility will be ·the branch manager listed on page 3.
Dewey Pest Control maintains that safety meetings be held and
documented on a timely basis. A signature must beobtained
by the manager and each employee for a minimum of two years.
Dewey Pest Control offers at no charge to its employees, con-
tinuing education classes. The Structural Pest Control Board,
a department of the Consumer Affairs of California maintains
a program that all licensees of the state, operating under the
· provisions of the Structural Pest Control Act, attend continuing
education classes. A licensee must' have proof of mandatory
required training or may not renew their license. ~-
Dewey ·Pest Control provides many different types of safe%~
protection devices. The company stresses very highly that
these be Used when called for by the label, training, or just
good common sense. These devices may be in many forms, self
contained breathing aparatus, respirators,~glovesi, goggles,
etc.

INFORMING OTHERS
Upon request you must supply M.S.D.S. to any others that may be exposed
outside our company but not necessarily emplOyed·by our company.
MEDICAL'RECORDS
A. Access to Exposur~ records must be afforded in 15 days upon
request
(4).
Medical records must be retained for 30 years and more.·
(see regulations if necessary)
