Enviro-Vault® was conceived and designed prior to the existence of any broadly accepted criteria for categorizing and testing Insulated Fire Resistant Tanks. Once Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. arrived at their initial testing criteria an Enviro-Vault® sample was submitted, subjected to a two hour 2000 degree full scale fire test and successfully passed all of the fire resistance, requirements of SU 2085. Subsequently, as the result of introduction of Uniform Fire Code requirements under appendix A-II-F, Enviro-Vault® was subjected to pool fire, ballistic, impact, and fluid communication testing and was found suitable for U.L. Listing and Labeling under the Protected Secondary Containment Aboveground Tanks for Flammable Liquids. This is the most stringent and comprehensive broadly accepted designation for this class of product. Today Envirq-Vault® has a design to meet virtually any regulatory requirement or customer .need. The following is a brief description of the three basic styles of Enviro-Vault®: EV Series- The EV Series tank consists of steel primary tank, six inches of concrete insulating material, and a steel outer (secondary tank) all in a rectangular configuration. This style is most popular and economical in sizes 250 through 2000 gallons though this style is available up to 12000 gallon capacity in custom designs. EV Style tanks are available with two or more separate compartments. EV-3C Series - The EV-3-C Series tanks consist of a steel primary tank, a steel secondary tank in direct contact with the primary tank, six inches of concrete insulating material, and a steel outer tank (tertiary). While the EV-3C is considered a "secondary containment tank" (as is the EV series Tank) the secondary containment is inside the concrete insulating material. This means that the secondary containment is protected from bullets, vehicle impact, and fires the same as the primary tank. While U.L. does not recognize "tertiary" or triple containment, the outer wall of the EV-3C tank is the same as the EV. This provides, for all practical purposes, a triple contained tank. Many "deep pocket" corporate accounts and governmental agencies have chosen this styl,e tank. EV- 3C tanks are typically in the 250 to 2000 categories however larger sizes are available. EV-3C tanks are available in two or more compartments. EV-CC Series - The EV-CC is a horizontal~cylindrical design with a steel primary tank, six inches of insulating concrete, and steel outer secondary containment tank. The EV-CC style tank is mounted on steel saddles which, have been filled with 3000 P.S.I. commercial concrete for fire resistance and strength, B-1 01/00 While insulated saddles are not required by U.L. on tanks with supports less than 12" we believe that a cylindrical tank on unprotected supports is inherently dangerous due to the possibility of structural failure in a severe heat situation. Support failure in a fire could easily cause a cylindrical tank to "roll" creating much more dangerous situation and potential product release. Our insulated saddle support design virtually eliminates this risk. EV-CC tanks are typically most economical in the 3000 to 20,000 gallon range although smaller sizes are available. EV-CC tanks are available with two or more compartments. Round or Rectangular? - Enviro-Vault tanks are provided in both rectangular and cylindrical styles. This allows us to serve a broad range of needs and potential markets. The advantages of a rectangular tank are compactness both in "foot print" and tank height. The flat top of a rectangular tank also provides much flexibility in arranging the fittings needed. Fittings may be placed anywhere on the top of a rectangular tank whereas on a cylindrical tank all fittings must be arranged on the centerline. This advantage is. especially important on small tanks. Many customers prefer rectangular tanks because they don't look as obviously like a "tank". Cylindrical tanks, on the other hand, tend to be much more economical to build in the larger sizes. Rectangular tanks in larger sizes require extensive bracing to withstand the hydrostatic pressures. In a cylindrical tank all of the steel can be used to contain the fluid. In a rectangular tank only the bottom and sides contain fuel. This means a cylindrical tank of a given capacity requires less steel to build than a rectangular tank. A cylindrical tank, because of the smaller square footage being covered, also requires less insulating material for a given capacity. Specifications - The market for Insulated Abovegr. ound Fuel Tanks is extremely competitive. As one would expect, each manufacturer touts their particular features to try and gain an advantage over the competition. Unfortunately this competitiveness results in specifications being issued which contain such restrictive and detailed requirements that they narrow the acceptable product to one manufacturer. These requirements are rarely relevant to real world performance and in most instances not legal. If you come across a published specification for a project, which appears to exclude Enviro-Vault®, please let us know and we will assist you in getting the specifications changed. Specifications are subject to change without notice. evrnspcin rev 2/99 B-2 01/00 Specification for Enviro-Vault® Protected Secondary Containment Aboveground Fuel Storage Tank EV Series A.
