LEAK DETECTION AND MONITORING PROCEDURES: Visual inspection used to discover leaking containers of hazardous materials. Bo EMPLOYEE AND AGENCY NOTIFICATION: For spills that are a threat to life, safety, or the environment, 9-1-1 will be immediately contacted and the Office of Emergency Services will be contacted. For non-emergency spill reporting, the Bakersfield Fire Department will be contacted. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE MANAGEMENT: The primary contact, Dana Shackelford, is responsible for notifying agencies and clean-up contractors if necessary in the event of a spill. The secondary contact, Brett Davidson, will be the responsible person if Dana Shackelford is not available. EMERGENCY MEDICAL PLAN: Injured employees will be taken to Valley Medical Group for treatment. The address is 5401 White Lane, Bakersfield 93309 and the phone number is (661) 836-4000. HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGEMENT PLAN SECTION I1.2: RELEASE RESPONSE PLAN ho HAZARD ASSESSMENT AND PREVENTION MEASURES: In order to prevent releases from occurring, employees are properly trained on the storage and handling of hazardous materials. This facility stores and uses chemicals including but not limited to lead acid batteries (corrosives), combustible liquids (motor oils and ATF), and products that are irritants or that present other health hazards. Incompatible chemicals are separated by 20 feet or by one-hour separation, and are stored in their original containers. Batteries are stored in a designated rack or on a shrink-wrapped pallet in a well-ventilated room away from drains and sources of electricity. Flammable materials not for retail sale are stored in a Flammables Cabinet. Used materials are stored in properly labeled drums, and are also kept away from drains and source of electricity. Bo RELEASE CONTAINMENT AND/OR MITIGATION: Trained employees manage small spills (spills that can be safely handled by employees in the immediate vicinity) of identified chemicals as long as there are no threats to human life or the environment. The immediate spill area will be evacuated on nonessential personnel and customers. The Material Safety Data Sheets for spilled materials are consulted for proper guidance in handling the substances, and the spill kits are obtained. A spill boom and absorbents will be used to immediately block the flow of liquids from entering any nearby drains. Proper PPE is donned before handling spilled product. In the event of a large spill, fire or release that threatens human health and/or the environment, the local fire department and environmental health department will be contacted. In the event of a small fire, if safe to do so, a fire extinguisher may be used to extinguish the fire. CLEAN-UP AND RECOVERY PROCEDURES: The proper disposal, spill and leak procedures for each hazardous material at the facility is detailed in the facility's Environmental Operations Manual. Trained employees will clean up spilled hazardous materials and used absorbents and place them in DOT approved containers. These containers will be properly labeled as directed in the Environmental Operations Manual and stored according to local, state and federal regulations. Disposal containers must be kept in good condition and stores away from high traffic areas, electrical hazards, drains and £~re exits. All hazardous waste materials will be disposed of by outside contractors at RCRA approved facilities. Safety-Kleen is the preferred contractor and the waste is picked up one time every two months.
