Hazardous materials at Leslie's retail locations are not handled ou tside of final consumer packaging. Except for emergencies involving small amounts of hazardous materials, no packing, re- packaging, use, or disposal of hazardous materials take place on- site. 2. Displays of solids will not exceed 150 - 170 pounds per square foot of floor area actually occu pied. 1 Leslie's does not carry liquids in packages that exceed 1 gallon. Therefore, all liquids must be stored on racks, shelves, or pallets and not directly on the floor (8001.12.3.2). 3. Display height shall not exceed six feet (8001.12.3.3) 4. Individual containers less than five gallons or less than 25 pounds will be stored on shelves (either wall mounted or in gondolas; 8001.12.3.4). 5. Hazardous materials are packaged in plastic containers ranging in size from 1 oz. to 100 lbs. Leslie's does not carry products packaged in containers exceeding 100 pounds (8001.12.3.7). 6. Incompatible materials will be seperated by at least 20 feet where possible, otherwise a non-combustible barrier will be installed to separate incompatible materials (8001.12.3.8). 7. Aisle width will be maintained at 4 feet on three sides of all display areas (8001.12.3.10). 8. Signs shall be displayed on all entrances in accordance with NFPA 79-3 (8001.12.3.11). 1 The "floor density" calculation was made as follows. With the exception of 75 lbs. containers of Calcium Hypochlorite (a.k.a., Power Powder, HTH), all floor stacked hazardous material containers are 12 inches (i.e., 1 foot) in diameter. In addition, the maximum number of containers that will be stacked one on top of the other will be three. Therefore, taking the largest capacity container (i.e., 50 lbs. Soda Ash) and multiplying by three (number of stacked containers) gives a density of 150 lbs.per square foot. For the 75 lbs. containers of Calcium Hypochlorite, the maximum number of containers that will be stacked is two. These containers are approximately 18 inches in diameter, resulting in a floor density of approximately 100 lbs. per square foot. One display of Calcium Hypochlorite combines 25 lbs. containers and 75 lbs. containers and may be stacked 2X75 and 3X25 which would lead to a floor density of 150-170 lbs. per square foot, depending on which "container footprint" you use for the calculation. 1/25/99 (prepared per 1997 UFC Section 8001.3.2) SE Bakersfield, CA LE.lIE'S SWIMMING POOL suft,LIES Hazardous Materials Management Plan Retail Facilities Employee Training and Safety Equipment All employees are trained concerning the properties and proper handling procedures for all hazardous materials sold in our stores. In addition to mandated training (e.g., HM 126F, SARA Title III, etc.) conducted for all new hires and at required intervals for continuing employees, Leslie's stores conduct monthly safety meetings that cover topics such as: understanding MSDS, chemical handling procedures; spill response, respiratory protection, etc. Every Leslie's store is stocked with the following safety equipment: Fire extinguisher - water (1) and ABC (1) Safety Goggles Safety Gloves Safety Glasses Face shield and head gear Respirator (half face) - HEPA cartridges for dusts MSDS Manual Emergency broom, dust bin 55-gallon containers (yellow plastic, 2) Hazard tape Fluorescent warning cone NFPA 704 labels Emergency response notification poster Site Secudty and Monitoring Methods Site security is provided by door locks and a burglar alarm system.
